About me

Let me introduce myself. I’m Jo and alongside being a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor, I’ve been a primary school teacher for almost three decades. I’m no stranger to big feelings, tricky dynamics, and the beautiful chaos of life. That experience has shaped the way I show up in the therapy room; calm, steady, and able to hold whatever you bring.

In my therapy room, you can expect empathy, attunement, humour, and the occasional bit of gentle challenge; for both of us. My aim is to offer a warm, grounded space where you can explore whatever you’re carrying without fear of judgement or shame.

What I ask from you is simply to show up, for yourself. Some days that might mean arriving energised and ready to talk; other days it might mean showing up in whatever way possible and sitting quietly in a safe space. All of you is welcome.

I trained in Transactional Analysis (TA), which is basically a brilliant way of understanding the different “voices” or patterns we all slip into; the ones that help us, and the ones that trip us up. TA gives us a shared language to make sense of why we react the way we do, where those reactions come from, and how we can gently rewrite some of the old scripts we’ve been carrying around. It’s down‑to‑earth, human, and sometimes surprisingly fun to work with.

I have experience working with bereavement, addiction, anxiety, depression, OCD, neurodiversity, separation and divorce, peri-menopause and menopause and childhood trauma. I also offer home visits where possible and if appropriate. If you’d like to explore how we might work together, please get in touch.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and have completed the required training and placement hours. I am currently training to be a menopause coach. I have experience working with clients of all ages, genders, and ethnic backgrounds, and across a wide range of presenting issues. My approach is inclusive, culturally responsive, and shaped around each person’s unique needs and goals. I also have over 25 years of experience working in education.
