About me
Hello, thank you for pausing at my profile. Are you overwhelmed at the moment? Struggling to switch off, sleeping poorly, feeling emotionally drained or have any other mental health issues you would like to explore. I work with people struggling with these issues as well as health related worries, infertility, menopause and the stresses of the post natal period.
Together, we’ll create space to understand what’s contributing to your difficulties, explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and work towards feeling calmer, clearer and more able. We can worK from my welcoming counselling room on Team Valley or online.
I am a BACP psychotherapeutic counsellor based in the UK. I bring 4 years of counselling experience and a long background in healthcare (as a nurse and midwife) to my role. I have experience in helping clients with stress, anxiety, coping with grief and loss, career difficulties, & depression, always working together with you, at your own pace. Trust and connection is the foundation of my work. Many different life experiences create similar feelings and issues. Work with me to cope with these life changes and difficulties.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained at the Northern Guild in Newcastle. My qualification is a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic counselling. This means we can explore your problems in the here and now or think about the contributing factors from your past.
I am also a midwife and a general nurse although no longer practising.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Testimonials:
Client A “Joanne has been an amazing therapist, I had doubts starting therapy but day by day I have noticed positive impacts of getting therapy and talking to Joanne. She is very kind and extremely helpful in every way. I didn’t even think about changing my therapist at all because I was very happy to continue my journey with her guidance and connecting with her once a week and through the worksheets made great progress. I would recommend her to anyone without a doubt.”
Client B “ Joanne has been very professional and genuinely helpful, using her expertise to help me better myself through my course of therapy. I would highly recommend her services!
