About me

Hi, I’m Jo – thanks for clicking on my profile.

There is often so much going on inside our own heads, that no-one else knows about and it can be exhausting trying to keep it all at bay.  I am here to help you make sense of things, at your own pace.

Do any of these feel familiar?:

Feeling sick with anxiety, or stress effecting your sleep at night. ·

Do you feel the pressure to get ‘it’ right (whatever 'it' is), career, family, life, parenthood etc.

Did something happen and you don’t know who to talk to that won’t judge you or be biased.

Do you worry how your loved ones/friends might react if you tell them how you feel?

Do you have a feeling of guilt or shame?

Are things feeling out of your control and overwhelming?

I remember having similar feelings myself before I started going to counselling. I remember thinking, how will anyone else understand me when I don't understand myself.  Then, over time I think I started to feel more comfortable with my counsellor and to be honest I began to trust my counsellor would keep what I told her private & confidential. That really helped me to open up....and then things started to just pour out of me.  In some sessions I would feel more quiet, and that was okay too.  I could be how I wanted to be during our sessions.  It felt important not to be pushed in my sessions.

I offer a warm, supportive, and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings safely and without judgement.  It is your time to be you, whatever that is, whatever your thoughts are.  I will sit with you.

My Background

In the past I worked as a nurse, midwife and antenatal facilitator, and have worked for Cruse Bereavement.

I have supported people going through life changing situations, such as;

-        pregnancy,

-        birth,

-        career issues,

-        trauma

-        relationship problems,

-        illness,

-        in to older age

-        death & bereavement

I will support you with whatever is going on for you.

As your counselling sessions develop, the burden you are carrying can start to feel less heavy.  The weight of your problems will begin to feel lighter.  You may realise you are able to cope with things that were previously bothering you so much.

Counselling offers you time to pause, think and explore.  It can help you to;

·        feel less anxious

·        sleep better at night

·        go for that job you want

·        travel to wherever you want to

·        live the life you want to

·        enjoy parenthood

·        Feel able to trust people again

.        Feel free to be you.

There are many things that can affect how happily we live our lives.  Counselling can help you to move forward and build a life with confidence & happiness.

I draw from a range of approaches depending on what suits you best. Above all, I offer empathy, respect, and a commitment to really listening to you.

What to Expect

I offer a free 15-minute introductory phone call/online call, where you can see if I feel like the right fit for you. If you feel able to, you can share what is bringing you to counselling. There’s no pressure — just a gentle, supportive chat.

If you do decide that you would like to attend counselling with me then all following sessions will be 50 minutes.

There is no set number of sessions you need to have.  This is guided by you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
