About me
I am an experienced and HCPC registered Arts Therapist and Psychotherapist of more than 20 years. I currently work in private practice from therapy premises in Rainow, Cheshire, where I offer individual sessions to both children and adults, in addition to more systemic work with parents and family groups.
The therapeutic essence of my practice is to offer a non-directive, person-centred approach where I am able to draw upon a broad range of therapeutic tools that best fit the presenting needs of my clients.
Having an Arts Therapy background enables me to offer additional, more creative ways of engaging clients who might traditionally struggle to access talking based therapies for reasons of trauma, neuro-developmental needs or learning disability. These non-directive skills can offer increased flexibility of approach where needed in addition to my core talking based therapy skills.
Training, qualifications & experience
In addition to my core Masters Qualification in Arts Therapy, I have further added to my therapeutic portfolio with a number of additional psychotherapy qualifications which incorporate a broad range of therapeutic modalities. These include: Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Solution Focussed Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Webster-Stratton Parenting, Attachment-based therapy and Trauma- focussed therapy which includes EMDR and Children's Accelerated Trauma Technique (CATT).
During my therapy career, I have worked extensively with children, young people, families and adults across both health and education sectors. My career to date has offered me experience in a wide variety of settings which include mainstream and special education, the care and criminal justice systems and for the last 16 years within Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) under the NHS sector. I have also been working in private practice with adults, children and families alongside my work in the public health sector.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
