About me
My name is Jess; I'm a person-centered counsellor psychotherapist offering sessions in Barrow-in-Furness and Ulverston, Cumbria.
My practice is for anyone who is looking for a therapist who is warm, relatable, compassionate, exploratory, open-minded and willing to learn. I offer authenticity and warmth in a space that can, sometimes, feel scary. I'm led by your experience, and trust in your self-expression.
I became a therapist as a result of personal experience. There was a time that I needed to connect with someone who could hear me, without judgement, while I explored what was troubling me. That's what I aim to be for you; a safe space for you to explore whatever is happening for you, at your pace.
There are many reasons you might be thinking about therapy; I welcome whatever that looks like. Some issues I have experience working with include, but are not limited to; relationship difficulties, sexuality, gender, identity, neurodiversity/ADHD/autism/AuDHD in adulthood, women's issues & menopause, anxiety and stress, and personal development.
I am an LGBTQ+ and GSRD (Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversity) affirming practitioner and offer a sex-positive space, for those exploring aspects of sexual and gender identity, and alternative relationship styles such as non-monogamy. For individuals who exist outside the binary of monogamy and heteronormativity, therapy can be a useful space to explore and unlearn, especially for clients who are struggling with how they feel, are discovering more about themselves at a later age, or may be struggling to express their authentic selves in an environment where that may be difficult.
I have recently (2026) completed training in Film Therapy; a mindfulness based, trauma-informed practice which invites looking at film and television in the therapeutic space, which can form part of our work if this resonates with you. Working with Film Therapy may look like exploring characters, themes and storylines to work through feelings, facilitate personal growth, and understand the impact of storytelling in our lives.
I consider it a privilege to walk alongside you as you tell your story.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
I work across two premises for in-person sessions; Women's Community Matters (located in the Nan Tait Centre) in Barrow, and Ulverston Business Centre in Ulverston. Both offer calm, inviting spaces to transition from everyday life into a safe, reflective place.
I also offer online sessions for those whom are unable to attend in person.
