About me

For some people, therapy is the first time they have experienced someone truly listening to them and honouring their need to be seen and heard. Others are looking for someone to gently challenge and hold them to account in making desired changes. I offer a calm, warm, supportive and respectful space to enable you to reflect on your experiences and express yourself without judgement.

My core training integrates Person-Centred, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis and Existential approaches, and I draw on these along with knowledge of human attachment and development in my practice. Person-Centred therapy positions you as the expert of your own experience, with an emphasis on self-acceptance and valuing yourself as you are. Sessions are non-directive and are led by you.

Gestalt therapy is a relational, dialogic and experiential therapy, which draws on the philosophy that people are interconnected wholes of mind, body and spirit, with the whole being more than the sum of its parts. I was drawn to this approach because of its holistic nature, and emphasis on creativity and integration, and I enjoy bringing these aspects into my work.

TA (Transactional Analysis) focuses on how our emotions and in turn our interpersonal interactions - patterns of transactions in adult relationships, can be driven by "ego" states, the different parts of the psyche and the internal dialogue between them, which are formed within early childhood relationships.

As my approach is developmental, we may reflect on some of your early experiences to help us understand how the past affects you in the present moment. We might explore different parts or aspects of yourself and the relationship between them, to help you to resolve any internal conflicts, whilst also thinking about the socio-cultural field - the wider system of which you are a part, and how it has impacted and shaped you.

Drawing these strands together, my aim is to meet you where you are and to work collaboratively with you. Most importantly, I believe that the client-therapist relationship is pivotal in supporting you to build trust, and I will put care and consideration into establishing a relationship in which you feel safe to be yourself. My aim is to help you to discover and create existing and new resources and to facilitate integration and change in a way that feels genuine and meaningful for you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
