About me
Hello, and welcome,
I am a Humanistic counsellor, believing all people have inherent worth and are to be respected for their life experience, whatever this may be. We all have an innate tendency towards growth and realising our full potential; sometimes we need more space and time to be heard and understood, so we can uncover and process ourselves, in a safe, non-judgemental environment, at our own pace. I see my work as creating such a space, so clients are better able to process their journeys and find their own way in our sometimes difficult world.
I am also a trained couples’ therapist and use this training both with couples, and also with individuals who are experiencing difficulties within their relationships, but may be unable to come with their partner.
Although this is primarily a listening therapy, I am also trained in expressive arts therapy and do include this within my practice, if a client so wishes; this often accesses deeper emotions which may have been buried many years. Some of the mediums used are clay work, drawing and sand trays. I work from home and provide all materials and space to facilitate this work. I also have a small dog who has benefitted many clients in the room but can be kept away if so wished.
As well as being a therapist, I have also worked as a sixth-form English Literature teacher, tutor and coach for twenty years, so am both comfortable and experienced communicating with older teenagers (16+) and young adults, as well as adults of all ages including elderly clients.
Working with people of all ages, at their own pace, means some come for as little as six weeks, others for a year or more. All is valuable.
Often when clients choose therapy, they come with an idea of their issues, only to find, as therapy develops, that more issues unfold. We thus work together, as therapist and client, with what the whole person brings, in the moment. However, below are some of the issues I am both trained in and have dealt with.
I am BACP registered, adhering to their code of conduct and ethics. I work in private practice from my home in Glasgow. I have also worked at a local counselling charity for several years.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
