About me
Hello, my name is Jay and I am a psychodynamic counsellor to adults and young adults.
If you are feeling depressed, anxious or lacking in confidence or perhaps struggling with anger or a loss that is difficult for you to accept then reach out.
It may be you carry a sense of emptiness or unhappiness, or simply unable to name this dread being felt. This can lead to feelings of confusion, second-guessing yourself or painful internal conflict and, perhaps, you feel that you may need help to understand what is going on for you. Perhaps you feel lost, no real way of moving forward or you may feel that you need to deal with a specific issue or trauma.
Psychodynamic Counselling is concerned with helping you gain a deeper understanding of your feelings, experiences and behaviour, past and present, conscious and unconscious - with a focus on making the unconscious understood by the conscious self. Our past, our lives before today can have a powerful influence in the now, on our relationships and on how we deal with what life can throw at us.
Sharing feelings, thoughts and fears can not only ease mental pain but also bring fresh insight, helping you to understand and make sense of things that may feel confusing. This can facilitate change and help you move forward in your life.
Counselling may be an effective way of offering you the space to think about, explore and talk about issues that may be concerning you or affecting the quality of your life. This is offered in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
I am also a clinical hypnotherapist and can bring this into our sessions if we identify that it may be helpful to you.
Together we will work to understand your inner world a little better. The hope is that the insight that you gain from our work together will help now, in the present, and also leave you better prepared for what life may bring up in the future.
The work can be difficult but a happier, healthier you is entirely possible. It just starts with you reaching out.
Training, qualifications & experience
I work in private practice only and I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy and adhere to its ethical framework & guidelines. I am also a BACP Spirituality Member.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
