About me
Hello, I am Jaroslaw (Jarko) Machowski, an MBACP registered psychotherapeutic counsellor based in London, King's Cross. I work with individuals who seek emotional support. My experience mostly includes, but is not limited to, working with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, identity issues (including LGBT+), trauma or feeling lost.
To work with my clients, I use Gestalt methodology.
What does it mean exactly?
It means that we will create a professional relationship and then use it to raise your awareness of what is going on. Gestalt counselling provides a space for the exploration of different parts that constitute You, which can then be integrated into the most whole version of Yourself. At the core of many psychotherapeutic and counselling schools is a belief that humans have imprinted a natural drive for growth and fulfilment. Counselling is a way of connecting with it.
The Gestalt approach is a growthful model rather than a reparative. I will not try to 'fix you' in any way or tell you what you should be doing. By increasing your awareness, your choice range will broaden, so you will be able to respond more creatively to your life situation to support meeting your needs.
I offer short-term and long-term counselling for adults in English or Polish.
The length of counselling is determined by the complexity of the issue you would like to address. Short-term work usually refers to 6-12 sessions, whereas long-term is open-ended. We could discuss what's the best option for you during the free initial session.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
I believe that the chemistry between the client and the counsellor is crucial for therapeutic work. For that reason, I offer a free 30-minute online session. It's an opportunity for you and me to meet and discuss a potential work together
