About me
Offering short term or ongoing support with everyday life challenges, but mainly how they manifest as a result of recurring or single event trauma, e.g., anxiety, depression, relationship issues, eating disorders, lack of meaning or self-worth.
I work with a wide range of clients from young adults to seniors, in private practise online and just off the Malone Road in Belfast. As my particular professional interest and doctoral research has centred around the impacts of trauma, I offer a 10-week Trauma Counselling Programme in my private practise but also supervise the programme online as part of the Bath local authority services with adults who have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
Having been in the field of health and wellbeing for over 20 years, I have a compassionate understanding of myself and others that is always deepening, and so I am able to provide a gentle, safe and authentic space that allows any inner turmoil in clients to be expressed and shared without judgement, whether exploring specific issues or as part of a general process of developing greater awareness about how the past is still influencing behaviour and sense of identity today.
I offer a free half hour consultation, just to find out more and to see if we would be a match to work together. I then usually recommend a program of 6 sessions to start off with, so that we have a chance to establish a working relationship together. From there we can review and agree on what is needed to support further.
As well as one-to-one counselling, I assist companies with the implementation of their mental health strategies. Please contact me via email to discuss the corporate work or Trauma Programme privately. I can also offer Clinical Supervision support for counsellors.

Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.
They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Testimonials:
"Janet keeps things very real, and provides a safe space for me to look honestly at things that I have kept hidden. You can't really see the quality that Janet holds our sessions in, and I mean ‘hold’, as Janet very much holds the energy in which our sessions take place, you can't touch it, or even properly describe it, but it is this quality which enables me to open up, and to express what I have not previously been willing to see."
"Working with Janet has been immensely valuable for me; the progress I have made in the six months I have been with her has been phenomenal, I have never before experienced this steady and consistent breaking through old beliefs and long held attitudes, reaching a depth that is already enhancing my relationship with myself and others."
"Janet's easy way of being with people is a gift she gives to each client. Her non-judgemental way of listening is so refreshing. Completely accepting of where I am – in each moment – allows the safety that is vital in any healing environment."
