About me

Hi, I'm Jane, founder of Your Space Counselling and Psychotherapy.  Having personal experience of the difficulties life throws at us I trained to be a counsellor to give back and am passionate about giving others the strength, self belief, support and acceptance we all need to be able to grow, change and flourish. Whatever you are going through right now I am here to listen without judgement and be beside you working together to find your way through. Your Space offers just that your own safe space to be yourself and bring whatever you want to counselling.

I am person centred at heart but work pluralistically drawing on what works for each client individually collaboratively at your own pace. I am influenced by narrative and social construction and believe in the impact other people, culture and society has on us and we can explore this (be it family/friends/the media). Past, present and future all play a role as does our environment and how we interact within it.  Drawing on my understanding of both psychology and counselling as we get to know each other we can pinpoint key areas where these beleifs that are put upon us or that we buy into are holding you back or have impacted how you see yourself or your expectations of self and/or others.

It may simply be you need someone to listen, to offload and I am happy to simply be there for this as a one off or longer term.  I see each client as unique and respect their needs and aim to encourage each client to celebrate this and not hide behind what society or other people want/expect.

Your Space is LGBTQI+ friendly and also strives to accommodate neurodiversity.  Having studied psychology I have an understanding of how the brain works and look to work holistically, the more I learn about you as a person, the more we can explore how you became to be who you are and how you can get where you want to be.

I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully joining you on your journey to work towards what you want to gain from counselling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
