About me
Hi, I'm Jan, thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I am a qualified person-centred counsellor and clinical hypnotherapist.
Everyday life, work, health, relationships and families can be extremely hard, stressful, emotional and unpredictable at the best of times. We are all guilty at times of 'carrying on as normal' until it gets to the point of being too difficult or too much. This can make everyday tasks seem too much, impossible or like climbing mount Everest and you may not know why or even understand why.
Have you started to notice changes in your behaviour or mood or have people said you are changing or not your normal self? You may have had people telling you to 'snap out of it', 'Man up' or said 'what have you got to worry about'... some people just can't or won't understand what you are going through; this is not a reflection on you. You may be feeling like you are on constant 'auto pilot' with no energy, be feeling alone, afraid, exhausted, not good enough, misunderstood, angry, sad or overwhelmed and not quite able to pinpoint why.
Quite often it is 'something' small that forces people to the edge. This is not a sign of weakness; it simply means you have been strong carrying those unresolved issues for too long. Sometimes we know what the problems are, other times we do not. It maybe issues or events that you have carried or hidden your whole life, they may new or recent events or trauma's or they could be a number of manageable events that have piled up on top of each other too quickly, creating a snowball effect. It’s a very individual experience for everyone. What matters is how this is impacting you, in the here and now, and what you would like to change.
In counselling everything is relative; it matters because it matters to you. You may feel vulnerable and alone; you are not alone in counselling; support is here waiting for you when you are ready. You will be seen, you will be heard, you will be understood, and you will be valued. I will see you; I will hear you; I will understand you; I will value you and respect you.
You will you welcomed with understanding, empathy and compassion. My aim is to provide you with a safe and confidential space to help you understand the problem(s), walk with you at your pace as you decide what and how you want to move forward and to learn new skills of managing and living with your past.
I have experience of working with a wide variety of issues including grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, domestic abuse, domestic violence, sexual assaults/abuse, and suicidal idealisation with all genders and identities. I have experience of working alongside a men’s only mental health charity and a local hospice.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
