About me

Welcome

Hello, my name is Jackie and my counselling practice is in Elstead, Surrey where I have a dedicated, comfortable, discreet and safe counselling room.

I work with children aged 4+, adolescents, and adults. I see young clients in my play therapy room throughout the week, including before and after school appointments. I see adult clients face to face or online throughout the week, including evening appointments.

What I can offer

I am an integrative counsellor and can draw from a range of therapeutic models. This means I can meet your child's needs or your needs as an adult client, while offering a calm, caring and safe environment where no one will be judged. With young children I work with play, offering a range of opportunities, with time and space, for your child to make sense of their world and share their emotions.

I am an individual member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and as a BACP member I am committed to working ethically, to high professional standards and commit to continuing my professional development.

As a first step I offer a free, 20-minute, introductory call or visit for you to share the issues you feel you need help and support with so that you can decide if I am the right therapist for you. You can also ask any questions you have about counselling, psychotherapy, the therapeutic process and how we will work together.

Working with you

I believe everyone can benefit from counselling and I welcome the opportunity to work with clients regardless of age, culture, religion, gender, sexual orientation or beliefs. Please feel free to get in touch for more information.

What happens in the first session - children?

During our first full 50 minute session we will start with introducing ourselves in more detail and agree how we will work together in the counselling room so that we keep each other safe.  I will give every child the opportunity to ask any questions that they may have and explain that they get to choose what happens in the room.  I understand children may be nervous and will have various fidget toys and distractors at hand and do my best to put them at ease.

After introductions I will invite the child to explore the couselling room and choose what they would like to do. They get to choose what to engage with and how to engage with me, the toys and the activities in the room. My role is to help them express their emotions through whatever means works for them.  I will actively observe,  listen and engage when invited to as the child shows me their personal story.

What happens in the first session - adults?

During our first full 50 minute session we will start with introducing ourselves in more detail, which will include me explaining how I work, my training and the ethical framework that I abide by. I will give you the opportunity to ask any questions that you have about counselling, psychotherapy, the therapeutic process and working with me.  I understand you may be nervous and will do my best to put you at ease.

After introductions I will invite you to share your personal experiences with me, this may include your current relationships, childhood, key past or present life events that are impacting on your wellbeing. You choose what to share and what you feel is relevant. I will actively listen as you tell your personal story.

Before the end of the session I will give you the opportunity to choose whether you wish to continue to work together. If you want to continue we will consider how we want to work together, the goals you have for therapy and the contract for how we will work together.

If you don’t feel that I am the right therapist for you we will consider other options that might work better for you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
