About me

I believe that the patterns in how we think and feel, the ones that quietly shape so much of our lives, are formed in our relationships, particularly the earliest and most formative ones from childhood. When we’re struggling with those patterns, whatever form that takes, anxiety, low mood, self-criticism, difficulty trusting others, feeling stuck in cycles we can’t quite explain, one of the most powerful paths towards change is a relationship with another person who is kind, curious, and genuinely present with you. That’s what I aim to offer in the therapy room: a safe, structured space where that kind of relationship can do its work.

For a long time in my own life, I carried a persistent sense of loneliness, not always the loneliness of being physically alone, I could be surrounded by people and still feel it, but something more like a lack of being truly held or understood. That sense of isolation had me sitting with an uncomfortable question: what’s the point of this thing we call life, why do I bother getting up in the morning? Through the experience of connection, of making meaning with others and being understood, especially in my own therapy, that question slowly began to be answered, or at least satisfied. That understanding changed things for me, and it’s a large part of why I do this work now.

In the room, I bring curiosity, warmth, and some humour too. There’s a common assumption that starting therapy means arriving on day one and laying bare your deepest, most difficult thoughts and feelings straight away. It doesn’t work like that, and it doesn’t need to. Moments of joy and laughter aren’t a distraction from the serious work, in my experience, they’re often what makes it possible, they build the trust and ease that eventually create room for harder, more vulnerable things to surface in their own time. You never know, you might even enjoy coming to therapy.

If any of this resonates with you, I’d be glad to talk.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute, in partnership with Staffordshire University, and hold an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy. I’m a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist and a member of UKCP’s Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy College, working within their Code of Ethics and Professional Practice. I completed my clinical placement at BodhiSpace in Olney, where I continue to see clients, and I’m in ongoing clinical supervision.

As an integrative psychotherapist, I understand that the relationships we form in life, particularly our earliest ones, lay down the patterns of how we think, feel and behave.

When we face adversity, whatever form it takes, we find ways of getting through it. Sometimes that adversity is something large, such as neglect or abuse. Sometimes it’s quieter: many small moments of misattunement or disconnection that build up over time. Either way, we develop strategies to survive those periods, often without realising we’re doing it. Those strategies were essential at the time, and they go on shaping how we live long afterwards. At some point, though, the feelings or sense of self they leave us with can start to feel as though something isn’t quite right.

Therapy offers a space in the presence of an empathic other, where those strategies can be understood, heal and change, leading towards a more integrated sense of self. In our relationship, we can find a safe space to start to understand and change the thoughts, feelings and ways of relating that are no longer serving you well.
