MBACP Registered Counsellor

About me

I'm Helen, a BACP-registered psychodynamic counsellor offering in-person therapy in Basingstoke, Hampshire and online.

My approach centres on offering a safe, warm and approachable space where you'll be truly heard, understood and supported.  Over the years, I've successfully worked with individuals navigating a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, and the lasting effects of trauma - both recent and rooted in the past. Within this, I have extensive experience supporting people with low self-esteem, self-harm, disordered eating, abuse and complex and intergenerational trauma. My work supports helping you to cope, building emotional resilience and moving towards a life that feels more stable, connected and fulfilling.

I have an interest in supporting people through loss and bereavement. Loss can affect us in many different ways, and it isn’t always straightforward or predictable. I offer a steady, compassionate space to explore what your loss means for you, to help make sense of the emotions that are arising, and to find ways of coping that feel more manageable and supportive.

I also work as a counsellor with 2Wish (www.2wish.org.uk), a charity that provides free, confidential support to those affected by the sudden and unexpected death of a child or young person aged 25 and under. This includes, but is not limited to, parents, siblings, grandparents, partners, extended family, friends, witnesses, and professionals such as healthcare workers, emergency services and educators. As one of their counsellors working in the local community, this work is deeply meaningful to me. It involves offering compassionate, specialist support to individuals and families at some of the most painful and disorienting moments of their lives. Being part of a service that holds people with such care and dignity is an important and valued aspect of my professional practice.

How Can Therapy Help?

Whether you're facing something specific, or experiencing a more general sense of feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure, you don’t have to go through it alone. Therapy with me is a space to make sense of what’s happening, and I bring warmth, experience, and care to support you in that process. Together, we can gently start to explore what’s been difficult, what’s been carried, and what might be ready to shift. This work can open the door to meaningful, lasting change and a more fulfilling way of living.

I understand that taking the first step into counselling can feel daunting, so I aim to make this process as gentle and reassuring as possible. Please know that you don’t need to have the right words or a clear starting point - just a sense that you’d like to begin.

Next Steps

If this feels like the right step for you, I warmly invite you to get in touch by email or phone. I typically respond within 24 hours, and we can then arrange a free 20-minute call - ideally via Teams, or by phone if that’s easier for you - at a mutually convenient time.

This initial conversation is an opportunity for me to understand what's brought you to counselling, your preferences for in-person or online therapy, and whether you’re looking for short-term or ongoing support.

In-Person or Online

In-person sessions are offered at my counselling rooms in Basingstoke, Hampshire. My room is private and comfortable, helping you feel safe and at ease. It’s a place where you can pause, be heard, and explore your thoughts and feelings with support and understanding.

I also offer sessions online via Microsoft Teams, which can be a flexible and convenient way to access support from the comfort of your own space. Whether distance, mobility, or other commitments make it difficult to attend in person, online counselling can provide a consistent, supportive space where we can explore your thoughts and feelings together at your own pace.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
