About me
Helen Hobson, Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor
I wonder how you are today? Does it feel like you're giving a lot of yourself, yet you still feel unsure, tired, or unseen?
I'm Helen, an integrative therapeutic counsellor with a background of over 30 years in the creative arts. My work within this industry gives me a particular understanding of pressure, self-doubt, change, and identity, including considering, perhaps, who you are when your roles or circumstances shift.
I would like to give you the time to pause, talk openly, and explore whatever may be weighing on your mind in our sessions. You don't need to be in crisis or even know exactly what it is you want to say. We can explore this together and work out how you're feeling today, so you're not on your own.
I work with adults experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress, and life transitions. I have a special interest in fertility challenges. With a background in movement and mindfulness, I'm also interested in how stress is held in the body as well as the mind. Where it's helpful, I share simple ideas about how stress and emotion work in the body, so you feel informed and in charge of your own process.
I meet with clients face to face and online, in a calm and confidential space, at your pace and with no judgement. Together we can make sense of what is happening and find ways forward that feel manageable to you.
I'm also a counsellor with Westmeria Counselling Services, offering low-cost counselling to people who live in the Borough of Bromley. My private practice is separate and open to anyone, wherever you live.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information
I do currently have availability both for online and face-to-face sessions in Bromley and Central London by arrangement. Please book a free 30-minute clarity call with me for an opportunity for us to chat, perhaps for you to ask me any questions, and for us to decide if we are the right therapeutic fit for each other, or if I can help signpost you to a more relevant service.
Where possible, I would like to offer lower fees to individuals who qualify; this is dependent on their particular circumstances. Please contact me for details.
Further information
In our first session together, we will be collecting information, and you may find I am asking a lot of questions. This will include an Outcomes Measures form, discussing Mood and Anxiety, plus an Initial Assessment. We will have already spoken in your free Clarity Call, and I will have a little information about why you are seeking therapy at this time, but now we will have the opportunity to begin to talk together about your own unique circumstances and find out, assess, where you would like our focus to lead in our subsequent sessions.
