About me

Hello, if you’re struggling right now, or want to get to know yourself better, I’m here to help. I have a special interest in working with people experiencing grief and loss through bereavement; diagnosis of a terminal illness, chronic illness, chronic pain particularly gynaecological issues such as endometriosis or injury and accident; as well as relationship issues/break-ups and estrangement.

I’m also experienced in working with stress and anxiety, depression and low mood, self-esteem, life purpose, meaning and identity.

Don’t worry if that list doesn’t reflect your experience – if you think we could work together, then why not arrange a free 15 minute introductory call so we can explore it together.

How can counselling & psychotherapy with me help?

I offer you a confidential and supportive space to explore your experiences and feel heard. It can help you:

·         Process the emotional impact of your experience

·         Make sense of what is happening for you

·         Cope with uncertainty

·         Explore how what has happened has impacted your identity, relationships, family, work, and life as a whole

·         Feel less alone with what you are going through

·         Find ways to manage anxiety, stress, low mood

·         Practice being ascertive

·         Reconnect with yourself

·         Understand yourself better

How do I work?

I’m a humanistic counsellor and psychotherapist. Essentially, I see you as a person who is unique not as a list of symptoms. So, if you are experiencing something, then I want to know how that impacts you, your life and your relationships. When I talk to you about your history, I’m not trying to analyse you – I want to understand how it impacted you then, and how the tentacles of that experience may be affecting who you are and how you act (or react) today.

I believe that if we are harmed in relationship then we can be healed in relationship too. That’s why finding the right therapist is so important. I will be led by you, and will take things at your own pace, never pushing for you to reveal more than you are comfortable with.

What can you expect in a session?

Sessions are generally conversational, except the focus is solely on what’s happening for you, and you don’t have to worry about upsetting or burdening me. It’s what I’m there for. That means your free to be yourself, to feel how you feel and to express yourself fully. No censoring. No moderating. Just saying it like it is.

If I feel it may help, we may do something more creative – that could be sand tray, drawing, metamorphic cards, or chair work to name a few techniques. The aim is to tap into what’s happening without thinking about it too much.

Who do I work with?

I work with adults over the age of 18 face to face in Tunbridge Wells and nationwide online. My youngest clients have been in their teens, my eldest, in their 90s.

I welcome people of all backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ clients, neurodivergent people (including ADHD and Autism), people of colour, disabled clients, and those from all faiths and cultures.

Unfortunately, the premises I work from currently does not have a lift, however, I am able to see clients with mobility issues online.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor & psychotherapist. I graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma in Humanistic Counselling & Psychotherapy from the University of Brighton. I have also trained in the Rewind Therapy Technique to provide 'closure without disclosure' for trauma and PTSD.

In addition to my private practice, I also volunteer as a counsellor for The Brain Tumour Charity, where I work with people who have been diagnosed with a brain tumour and their friends and family.

I have previously worked as a volunteer counsellor at the Hospice in the Weald, where I offered short term therapy to people whose friends or family have been diagnosed with a terminal illness or who have been bereaved. Prior to this, I volunteered with West Kent Mind’s Solace Café providing crisis prevention support to people with complex needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Deciding to go to therapy can be a big step. So, it’s important the therapist you choose is the right fit for you, because you will be sharing a lot of information about yourself – in some cases, you might be discussing things you’ve never told anyone before.

To help you decide whether I'm a good fit, I offer a free 15 minute introductory call. If you deside we are a good fit, then I suggest we meet for our first session. During this 50 minute appointment, I will undertake a brief assessment. This approach gives you the chance to tell me what brings you to therapy, with the understanding that you may not feel ready to share everything yet. You can also ask me questions about how I work.

Together we can decide whether what I offer is suitable for you – although there’s no rush, I appreciate you might need time to think it through. While there's no obligation to go ahead, if it feels right, we can discuss arranging your next session.

The initial session will be charged at a rate of £35.00. Subsequent sessions will be charged at £70 per hour.
