About me
Reaching out for therapy can feel like a big step. My aim is to offer a warm, thoughtful and genuinely collaborative space where you feel deeply understood, accepted and safe enough to explore what is going on for you.
I have a particular interest in ADHD and neurodiversity, relationships, menopause, anxiety and depression, alongside trauma, stress, burnout, grief and feeling stuck or overwhelmed. I am also very interested in supporting young people at University and have experience in this.
For me, the therapeutic relationship is fundamental. I believe that being genuinely seen, understood and met with warmth and compassion can itself be deeply therapeutic. I work hard to really understand the person behind their difficulties and tend to develop warm, trusting relationships with my clients.
An important part of my work is understanding the nervous system and the way our experiences, relationships and environments shape how we feel and respond. Sometimes we can understand something intellectually but our bodies continue to respond as though we are under threat. I draw on Polyvagal Theory and the work of Stephen Porges, alongside the work of Peter Levine, to help clients become more curious about their nervous system responses and develop a greater capacity to recognise, understand and regulate what is happening within them.
I believe therapy is not simply about talking. Alongside our relational work, I may use psychoeducation, mindfulness, self-compassion, body awareness, movement, art and other creative or experiential approaches when they feel helpful. My practice is informed by attachment, interpersonal neurobiology, Gestalt, psychodynamic, existential, transactional analysis, transpersonal and somatic approaches.
With children, I work in a play-based and developmentally appropriate way, respecting each child's individual way of communicating and expressing themselves. I draw on creative approaches including art, play, movement and storytelling to provide a safe space where children can explore feelings, develop emotional understanding and experience themselves with greater confidence and security. I bring warmth, curiosity and genuine acceptance to my work with children, alongside clear boundaries and robust safeguarding practice.
With young people, creating a sense of emotional and physical safety is paramount. My aim is for each young person to feel genuinely seen, known and valued within a healthy, boundaried therapeutic relationship. I will often spend time simply getting to know them before moving into deeper therapeutic work, and I am led by what feels right for them whether that means talking, painting, throwing a rugby ball, walking the dogs or simply spending time together. From this foundation of safety and trust, we can begin to explore their feelings, thoughts and experiences. As understanding develops, we can move towards strategies and empowerment, helping them feel more able to make conscious choices about how they manage difficult emotions and navigate their lives.
I believe people are their own best resource for healing and change. My role is to create the relationship and environment in which you or your child can feel safe enough to understand what is happening, reconnect with your own resources and discover greater choice and possibility.
I work both short and long term and always aim to work at your pace. If you are looking for a therapist who will really listen, think deeply with you and meet you as a whole person mind, body, relationships and life experience I would be very happy to have an initial conversation with you.
I am an accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with BACP, and have worked as a therapist for six years: in a charitable organisation; schools; and private practice. I am humanistic and integrative, drawing on a broad range of therapeutic theory and approaches while always keeping the person in front of me at the centre of the work.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a fully qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor and work with a qualified supervisor. I am an accredited member of BACP. I am also a qualified English and Drama teacher and have a lot of experience working with children and young people in a pastoral as well as therapeutic setting. In the past, I have worked for a charitable low cost counselling service in Bath, working with both adults and young people. I have worked in private practice for 6 years and currently have space for new clients after moving to Dorset from Bath.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
