About me

Hiya I'm Gary, How are things with you today?

I qualified as a psychotherapist and have many years of clinical experience working with a varied cross-section of clients, providing online (video) or face to face (F2F) therapeutic support to over 18 year olds.

I have gained extensive knowledge, qualifications and experience in distinct key areas which includes Trauma, Stress, Anxiety, Confidence and Self Esteem.

As a counsellor I believe that people possess the power to change their own perception of themselves which can influence their experience of life. There is no argument that everyone has the right to think or feel in any way that they wish but all too often we humans naturally become so self critical and judgemental and here lies the problem.

A negative self view can affect how we think, feel, interact, work, appreciate and even love for ourselves as well as how we are in the world it can warp our perception of ourselves generating endless questions constantly running through our minds like;- how much value do we offer, how much love do we deserve, how much praise isn't too arrogant.

These are constantly feeding us non-helpful questions about our achievements, skills, personal and professional relationships, abilities, etc. A controversial viewpoint is that I am not the 'expert' of you, my ‘job’ is only to assist my clients to investigate their negative self view, offering support and encouragement to change whatever it is that they feel requires changing.

I specifically feel it is important to know where did the negative viewpoint come from? How did it develop? is it actually a valid or accurate viewpoint? Many long held negative and debilitating beliefs become more judgemental, condemning, disapproving, of ourselves even though they may have originated to provide us with help.

I have no magic wand, I don’t have the perfect formula for a better life but my experience has shown that by offering a supportive and non-judgemental safe space that allows people to feel confident to open up, to discuss and investigate their thoughts.

By offering challenges and questions regarding my clients situations including their negative self view, encourages a more autonomous self supported outlook and understanding, this is a tough life anyway, do we really need to make it tougher for us.
