About me

💫 Life can be tough when we have lost touch with who we really are. Whether we are working, communicating, loving, or grieving, it all becomes more challenging when we are not being our true selves. My approach is to support you to let go of all the stuff that no longer feels true to you, whilst helping you reconnect with the you that has been there all along. Through this process, you can begin to better understand and express your feelings, and communicate your needs and wants more openly, both to yourself and to others.

When coping strategies are no longer helpful
As we grow and move through life, we adapt and take on roles to survive, belong, and fit in. At the time, these roles, comprised of sets of thoughts, feelings and behaviours, will have been exactly what we needed. We made the best decision in order to survive the circumstances were in. Years later, however, we may still be using these old coping strategies and enacting these roles; reacting to situations and interacting with others in ways that are no longer effective or serve us well. Over time, these versions of ourselves can accumulate, so that we feel inauthentic and disconnected from who we really are. We may experience depression, anxiety, or stress, or feel unable to cope. When we lose touch with ourselves, we can also lose sight of our unique strengths, qualities and strategies that make us resilient and help us navigate life.

What to expect in a session
We will sit together while you talk about whatever you are finding difficult. I will listen to what you share. I may reflect back what I have heard, offer insights, or ask questions for us to explore. Together, these conversations can help us understand your world more clearly and gain clarity about how you want to be.

Your pace and direction
You decide what to focus on, and we work at a pace that feels right for you. As our connection develops, I hope you will feel safe, understood, accepted, valued, and validated. I trust you to recognise the pace and direction that will best support your healing and growth.

Working with mind and body
I work somatically, which means that, as we explore what is happening in your mind, I will encourage you to notice and share what is happening in your body. Becoming more aware of your body can deepen your understanding of yourself, your world, and the challenges you face. It can also help you look beyond learned adaptations to reconnect with your authentic self. Greater self-awareness and authenticity can give you access to the strengths and qualities you may have lost touch with, which in turn provides you with insight into how to handle difficult situations.

As Paulo Coelho said, “Maybe the journey isn’t so much about becoming anything. Maybe it’s about un-becoming everything that isn’t really you so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place”

Practice description

I am a humanistic integrative therapist. Put simply, this means two things:

  • I believe people are inherently good.
  • I have been trained in a variety of approaches which I can draw on to help clients reconnect with their inherent goodness and fulfil their potential.

I can offer sessions online on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the day. (Currently gathering information re offering face-to-face in Haywards Heath.) My sessions are 50 minutes long.

What I can help with

Anxiety, depression, stress, loss and change. I have a particular interest in concerns relating to sense of self, including self-worth, self-esteem, self-confidence, as well as any life changes that impact identity, such as parenthood, separation, divorce, bereavement, illness, menopause and retirement.

If you think we could work together, please send me an email through this website. I aim to respond within two working days.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

My specialism – pet bereavement

Understanding pet loss
I understand from personal experience the depth of the bonds we form with animals and the many ways we can be affected when a pet is unwell, dies, or goes missing. Whether your loss is recent or happened many years ago, your experience matters.

When others do not understand your grief
Losing a pet can be devastating, but the depth of pet grief is often overlooked or misunderstood. This can leave you feeling even more alone. At times, it may feel unbearable, and you may find yourself thinking, feeling, or doing things that make you question yourself.  You can share all of this with me, and I will listen calmly and patiently without judgement.

Your grief is not a problem to solve, or something to fix; you are grieving because you loved deeply.  Together we can work out how you’re going to live with and carry your memories, grief, and love.
