About me
Hi, I’m Emma and I understand life can be challenging, confusing, overwhelming, stressful and often very difficult at times. Sometimes life can just get on top of us, and sometimes something happens to trigger us. Either way, you don’t have to manage this on your own.
I understand that coping with the pressures of daily life alongside your own internal struggles can be difficult. I can help you to work through your thoughts, feelings, behaviours and emotions; to help you make sense of your world.
I work with adults experiencing a wide range of life issues. I can support you in resolving a wide range of worries, for example, anxiety, depression, relationships, loss, trauma and low self-esteem.
I also enjoy working with teenagers and young people aged 16-18 years, where 10 years of professional work with adolescents has enabled me to support this age group in managing their own unique set of pressures, worries and fears.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I use an integrative approach to counselling, meaning that I use a range of methods to assist me in my practice, selecting those which I believe to be best suited to your individual needs rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information
I work in private practice, based in Canterbury, Kent. I offer face-to-face and online sessions. Sessions are tailored to meet your needs; we will work collaboratively to look at the source or sources of the problem. Together we will find ways of enabling you to move forward, ways you are comfortable with, and which will help you to meet your individual goals.
I offer both short-term and longer-term therapy options. Often the difficulties we experience in life are not developed in an instant, so working through them, solving them, and healing from them doesn’t happen instantly either. I will give you the time and space you need to achieve your goals.
