About me

Hello I'm Emma. I offer face to face counselling for adults in Dawlish and Exmouth. I have experience working with a wide variety of people of different ages, identities, and stages of life.

Sometimes life is challenging and the impact on our mind and body can be extremely hard to cope with alone. Whether you are having difficulties stemming from relationships, family, work, identity, anxiety, bereavement, or pain rooted in the past the experience can be overwhelming. I offer a warm, empathic, and non-judgmental space to help you explore the issues which are troubling you.  I will work with you to ensure you feel anchored and supported throughout the process.

As an Integrative counsellor I am trained to draw on different therapeutic techniques to suit individual clients. Usually this is done through talking but I may also suggest creative interventions, guide you through a visualisation or ask you to take note of somatic (physical) sensations that arise for you. Any intervention I suggest is an invitation which you are free to take up or decline. We can work together to see what best suits you. I work with a humanistic, existential approach and believe in empowering clients to heal and grow in their own way and at their own pace.

Attending counselling for the first time can be intimidating, discussing personal matters, and acknowledging vulnerability can take a lot of courage, so it is important you find a therapist you feel comfortable with.

If you would like to discuss setting up an initial session, please do give me a call or drop me an email and we can talk about what you hope to get out of counselling. After the initial session we could arrange further sessions if you would like to; these can be weekly/fortnightly.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
