About me

Hello, I'm Emma, a warm and approachable therapist, based in the heart of  Teddington. I welcome clients for both short-term and long-term counselling either in person or via Zoom. I offer support for a wide range of issues, including but not limited to relationship/family issues, grief, infertility and baby loss, anxiety, depression, work-related stress, low self-esteem/self-confidence, people-pleasing, perfectionism, and boundary setting, among others.

It's all about you

I understand that seeking counselling can be daunting, but I'm here to provide compassionate support and put you at ease. My approach is characterised by warmth and approachability. Therapy is a partnership and I truly appreciate the importance of the therapeutic relationship in the effectiveness of counselling. Together, we'll set out to create a safe, honest, and non-judgmental space where you can comfortably explore your issues.  Your story matters to me, and I'm genuinely interested in how I can help you in facilitating positive change.

More than just talk

If you're searching for a counsellor who simply listens, that's not my approach. While I won't provide direct advice, I will offer honest reflections/insights and, when appropriate, gently challenge you. We will work together to address your issues, going at your own pace and find a way forward. Ultimately, you are the expert on yourself, but I will do my utmost to help you uncover the answers that lie within you.

Tailor my approach to meet your needs

Each client is unique and I recognise that there is 'no one-size fits-all' solution. I tailor my approach to meet your specific needs, adjusting as we go to ensure therapy is working for you. Sometimes, this involves pure talking therapy, while in suitable cases, I bring in practical and CBT techniques. We can focus on your current concerns, or, if beneficial, delve into the past to better understand the root causes and behavioural patterns. By gaining insight into how our emotions and behaviours are impacted, we can develop greater self-awareness in the present and within our relationships.

Bereavement

I also have extensive experience as a Bereavement Counsellor, having volunteered at a hospice. I can provide support as you navigate the often painful journey of grief and work through complex emotions such as sadness, anger, fear, and isolation. Grief is a deeply personal experience, and people cope with it in their own unique ways. It is important to allow yourself to feel and process the pain. I will compassionately stand by your side, helping you find a way to live with your grief, while knowing that the love you have for your loved one will always remain.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified counsellor with a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Person-centred and Existential modalities).

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) and I adhere to their ethical guidelines. My member number is: 00953708.

In addition to Private Practice, I have experience volunteering at a hospice,  working extensively with bereavement, grief, cancer and terminal illness.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
