Life may seem like a struggle due to specific life changes, such as a bereavement, divorce, redundancy, family issues or more generally being dis-satisfied with your life, feeling 'stuck' and unsure why. This may be experienced as anxiety, depression, stress, sadness, fear, despondency or simply feeling overwhelmed. Counselling provides a space for you to explore what is distressing you and find a way forward.
My approach, as a person-centred counsellor, is to listen to you without judgment, in a private and safe environment. Rather than me providing you with advice, we will explore your issues together and help you to discover the answers that lie within. Our relationship will be essential in this. I am warm, approachable, and genuinely interested in people. I have a background working in the corporate world but found myself increasingly disillusioned with it. I wanted a career where I could make a difference to people’s lives so retrained to become a counsellor.
By developing a trusting and honest connection, we can talk through your difficulties and help you make sense of how you feel. Each client is unique and therefore I tailor my approach depending on your needs. We can explore your issues in the present but where useful, we can look at the past to explore the root of issues or patterns of behaviour. I have witnessed how therapy can bring about change, provided we have the environment and support to do so.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a fully qualified counsellor with a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Person-centred and Existential modalities).
I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) and I adhere to their ethical guidelines. My member number is: 00953708.
In addition to Private Practice, I volunteer at a hospice and am experienced with bereavement, grief, cancer and terminal illness.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
