About me

You might be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure how to move forward. You don’t have to face this on your own, support is available here.

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor, working across private practice, education, and the voluntary sector. I support children and adults who are experiencing a range of emotional and life difficulties.

I specialise in working with teenagers experiencing anxiety, low mood, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, overwhelm, and school refusal. I also support adults who are struggling with anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, bereavement, life transitions, and addiction.

My core training is person-centred, and I work integratively, drawing on a range of approaches to suit you as an individual. In my work, I aim to offer a supportive and collaborative space where therapy feels tailored to your needs. I understand that taking the first step can feel daunting, and many people find that once they begin, therapy brings a sense of relief as well as clarity.

I offer a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore what’s going on for you at your own pace. With young people, I understand that talking isn’t always easy, so I may also use creative approaches such as art, clay, sand, games, or storytelling to support expression.

I am a neuro-affirming counsellor and recognise the pressures that neurodivergent individuals can face in a neurotypical world, which can lead to stress, exhaustion, and burnout. Alongside my professional experience, I also bring personal insight as a parent of neurodivergent children, which deepens my understanding of family life and its challenges.

I also have experience supporting adults who are facing addiction and appreciate how complex and overwhelming this can feel.

In our first session, we will look at what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to get from it. Short-term therapy (typically 6–10 sessions) can be helpful for specific issues, while longer-term work may be more suitable for ongoing or more complex difficulties. Sessions are usually weekly and are 60 minutes in length. We will review progress regularly and adjust sessions to suit your needs.

I also offer walk-and-talk therapy for adults, which some people find helpful if sitting face-to-face feels difficult. Being outdoors can also bring additional benefits to the therapeutic process.

I offer a free initial consultation via phone or video call, or we can communicate by email if that feels easier for you.

Face-to-face sessions take place at Future Minds in Ashby de la Zouch.

Online sessions are available for adults.

Limited after-school appointments are available.

Recent testimonial:

We are incredibly grateful for the support and care our son has received from Emily. From the very beginning, Emily created a safe, understanding, and encouraging environment that really helped him open up and feel comfortable.

Over time, we’ve seen such a positive transformation, he has come on leaps and bounds. His confidence has grown, and he’s developed valuable tools to manage the difficulties he was facing. The progress he’s made has been truly remarkable, and it’s made a real difference not just for him, but for us as parents.

Emily is patient, professional, and genuinely caring. We always felt listened to and supported, and communication was excellent throughout.

We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her services to anyone looking for compassionate and effective support for their child.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
