About me

🌿 Hello hello, I’m Liz Heald — the face behind Heald Therapy.

As my surname very fittingly suggests, I’ve always been drawn towards supporting people emotionally and helping them feel genuinely heard, understood and accepted as they are.

Starting therapy can feel daunting, especially if it is your first experience of counselling, which is why warmth, safety and feeling comfortable within therapy are incredibly important to me.

Heald Therapy was created to offer exactly that — a place where you don’t have to have everything figured out before you arrive. We’ll make sense of it together.

I work integratively, meaning I draw from different therapeutic approaches depending on your individual needs and experiences rather than taking a “one size fits all” approach to therapy.

My core approach is Person-Centred Counselling whilst also integrating elements of CBT, DBT and Psychodynamic Therapy where helpful.

Some clients come to therapy wanting the opportunity to talk openly and process what they are carrying, whilst others may benefit from more structured support using practical tools, coping strategies and tailored approaches around difficulties such as anxiety, emotional regulation, overthinking, low self-esteem or unhelpful patterns.

I often work with clients who appear to be coping on the outside whilst internally feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained or disconnected from themselves.

Above all else, my aim is to create an environment where you feel able to explore things at your own pace.

Training, qualifications & experience

Alongside my work as an Integrative Counsellor and CBT & DBT Practitioner, I have completed a range of professional training, qualifications and continued professional development focused around mental health, emotional wellbeing, trauma and therapeutic practice.

Whilst qualifications and training are incredibly important within therapeutic work, I also believe the relationship between therapist and client is one of the most valuable parts of the process. Feeling safe, comfortable and understood within therapy matters just as much as the approaches or techniques being used.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), fully insured and ICO registered.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
