About me

Hi, and welcome to my practice! I am Eamonn, and I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I am also licensed to practice in California (LMFT 81028) and in Pennsylvania (MF001303).

I was born and raised in Belfast, and it was there where I first qualified as a therapist. I had the privilege of helping establish one of the province’s first charities providing services to male survivors of intimate partner violence, The Men's Advisory Project.

I moved to the US in 2003, and qualified first as a therapist in California, working in both private practice in San Francisco, California, and in the psychiatry department of a large medical services provider.

I have experience in treating many psychological disorders - including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and adjustment to life events - and my areas of particular focus are trauma-focused. These include providing therapy for survivors of pathologically abusive relationships, specifically relationships in which at least one partner displays prominent traits of a personality disorder, or is in fact diagnosed with a personality disorder, and the relationship is noted for dramatic, erratic, manipulative, and / or abusive behaviours.

My preferred models of trauma intervention include Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). I am also certified in Narcissistic Abuse Survivor Treatment through the Institute For Relational Harm Reduction, and in the Dr Ramani Durvasula treatment protocol. I am also Gottman couples / relationship therapy trained, to Level 3.

I also have specialised in treating survivors of religious trauma, which can include events such as the difficult act of losing faith; ostracism; being disowned by friends, family, and a community; and seeking to find new sources of joy moving forward (and they do exist beyond religion!)

Please feel free to email me or call me. I’ll look forward to us connecting and possibly working together.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Given my experience treating both individuals and couples experiencing challenging relationships, I have had the privilege of being approached by media outlets in Europe and the United States seeking comment on relationship issues, particularly pathologically abusive relationships, such as those impacted by one partner being abusive, or a partner displaying prominent traits of a personality disorder or having been diagnosed with a personality disorder.
