About me

I am a BACP (Accred) therapist and began private practice in 2006. In 2007, after completing my Postgrad. Cert in Supervision, I began supervising other therapists. I am also a Chartered Psychologist (Counselling) and my qualifications include a PhD, a Master's, and a Diploma in Counselling. Postgrad. Cert in Supervision and a PGCE.

I have also had academic papers published in a range of research journals and two books on creative therapy published.

I was originally trained in the humanistic approach, but over time, my approach has developed into a more pluralistic way of working (Cooper & McLeod, 2007;2011). However, I adapt my approach to suit the client/supervisee's needs.

Training, qualifications & experience

In addition to being an accredited member of BACP, I am also a Chartered Psychologist (Counselling) with the BPS. I was a Senior Lecturer at Staffordshire University between 2008-2020, managing and teaching on the psychotherapy courses. I have two books published on creative therapy, one published by Routledge and the other by Palgrave Macmillan.

I have worked face-to-face offering both counselling and supervision, but now only work online.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Additional information

If you are interested in me as your supervisor, please email, and I will send you an information sheet.

Further information

I view the supervision relationship as supportive, one in which the supervisee can feel safe enough to bring any anxiety or problems they are experiencing in their work with clients, as well as providing space to celebrate their good work. I can also offer creative ways of working in supervision if that fits with the individual, a collaborative relationship between myself as supervisor and the supervisee being the main aim.
