About me

Life can feel overwhelming at times, and reaching out for support can be one of the hardest first steps. You may be feeling anxious, low, stuck or simply in need of a space where you can talk openly and be truly heard.

Hello and welcome. I’m Donna, a qualified person-centred counsellor, and I offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can explore whatever may be troubling you.

I work with adults, young people and children (over the age of 11)  experiencing a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship issues, stress, emotional overwhelm and feeling stuck. Whether you are seeking support for yourself, or looking for help for your child or teenager, counselling can provide a safe space to better understand thoughts, feelings and experiences, and begin making sense of what may feel difficult right now.

My approach is primarily person-centred, which means sessions are led by the individual and shaped around their unique needs. I believe each person is the expert in their own life, and my role is to walk alongside them with empathy, acceptance and understanding as we explore things at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

When working with children and young people, I aim to create a trusting, age-appropriate space where they feel comfortable expressing themselves in a way that feels natural to them. This may involve talking, creative approaches, or gently exploring emotions in a way that helps them feel seen, heard and supported.

Where appropriate, I can also incorporate elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), offering practical tools and strategies to help with challenges such as anxiety, low mood, or unhelpful thought patterns. This allows us to combine emotional exploration with practical support, depending on what feels most helpful for the individual.

Starting counselling can feel daunting, but you do not have to face things alone. If you are considering taking that first step, whether for yourself or for your child, I welcome you to get in touch. I am happy to answer any questions you may have and help you decide whether counselling with me feels like the right fit.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
