About me
Hi, I'm Donna (she/her), an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist.
I offer counselling and psychotherapy in Sheffield and online across the UK. I work with adults experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, emotional overwhelm, people-pleasing, perfectionism and recurring patterns that leave them feeling stuck. Alongside my general counselling practice, I also have extensive experience supporting people affected by breast cancer.
My approach is relational, humanistic-integrative and trauma-informed. I believe therapy begins with feeling safe enough to explore experiences openly, at a pace that feels right for each individual.
People come to therapy for many different reasons. Sometimes it's in response to a particular event or life transition, while for others it's a growing awareness that something no longer feels quite right. Difficulties can arise from a single traumatic experience or through the accumulation of life experiences over time.
Choosing a therapist is an important decision, and finding someone who feels like the right fit can take time. I offer a free, no-obligation 20-minute consultation where we can talk about what has brought you to therapy, discuss any questions you may have, and consider whether I am the right therapist for you.
I believe every person is unique and the expert in their own life. Rather than offering advice or quick solutions, my role is to provide a thoughtful, non-judgemental space where experiences can be explored with curiosity and understanding. Therapy does not always provide immediate answers, but it can foster greater self-awareness and help people consider what may feel possible.
Many of the people I work with find themselves repeating unhelpful patterns in relationships, struggling with low self-esteem, emotional overwhelm, or feeling disconnected from themselves despite wanting things to be different. Therapy offers space to slow down, make sense of these experiences, and become more aware of the thoughts, feelings and patterns that may be influencing life in the present. Together, we may also explore how earlier relationships, attachment experiences and significant life events continue to shape the way a person relates to themselves and others.
Therapy can sometimes feel challenging, particularly when exploring experiences that have been difficult to carry alone. Alongside making sense of difficulties, there is also space to recognise strengths, resilience and the resources that already exist.
My work is grounded in person-centred values and informed by Gestalt, attachment theory and psychodynamic thinking. While I focus on what is happening in the present, I also recognise how earlier relationships and life experiences continue to influence how we relate to ourselves, others and the wider world.
Training, qualifications & experience
I work in private practice and, alongside this, have extensive experience supporting people affected by breast cancer. My counselling experience has included work within the NHS, community organisations and a specialist trauma service.
Before qualifying as a counsellor, I spent many years in supportive roles, working alongside adults experiencing emotional challenges, significant life transitions and changes they wanted to make in their lives. These experiences continue to inform my understanding of the many ways people experience distress, resilience and personal growth.
My background also includes training in Motivational Interviewing, which has strengthened my ability to help people explore ambivalence, deepen self-understanding and move towards meaningful, lasting change.
I hold a First Class BSc (Hons) in Humanistic & Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy and am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I maintain my professional practice through regular clinical supervision, reflective practice and ongoing continuing professional development (CPD).
Privacy & Data Protection
I am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and process personal information in accordance with UK data protection legislation.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

You can contact me by telephone or email to arrange a free 20-minute consultation or ask any questions before booking. If my voicemail is reached, please leave a message together with your preferred method of contact. To help protect your privacy, I'll only return telephone calls if requested.
I aim to respond to all enquiries within 48 hours.
Free 20-minute consultation
Our consultation gives us the opportunity to explore what has brought you to therapy, discuss how I work and consider whether working together feels right for you. There is no obligation to continue after the consultation.
Beginning therapy
Once we've agreed to arrange a first appointment, I'll send you a short intake form to gather some practical information and help me understand your current circumstances before we meet.
Our first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another, explore your experiences in more depth and discuss how we'll work together, including our working agreement and any questions you may have.
The first few sessions allow us to develop a shared understanding of your experiences, identify recurring patterns that may be contributing to your current difficulties, and establish a safe and collaborative therapeutic relationship. This creates a secure foundation for our ongoing work together, allowing therapy to develop at a pace that feels right for you.
