Counsellor/Therapist

About me

"Even the darkest nights bow down to the dawn. Trust that your emotions are simply the shadows trying to find their light; with patience, they will show you the way"

It takes courage to ask for help for your mental health and well-being.  However, from time to time, we all need some emotional support in a confidential and non-judgemental space; where we can safely explore our experiences with a trusted profession.  Finding the right person to help you through challenging times is the first and possibly most difficult step you will take in order to help yourself.  Whether it’s for something specific, or a complex mix of things, I aim to provide an opportunity for you to explore your experiences, at your own pace and being guided by your intuition.

No one can know or understand you better than yourself, so it is important for you to be in control of your sessions.  I will be there with empathy and without judgement helping you look into any aspects of your life and experiences, as and when you are ready to do so.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a BACP and NCPS registered counsellor. I work in a person centred way, enabling you to explore the aspects of your life, without pressure, how and when you are ready.

Having worked with male and female clients from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of needs, my experience includes helping individuals with general life issues, parental legacies, bullying, current and historic grief from loss; stress and anxiety; self-harm and eating disorders; all types of domestic abuse and understanding and moving forward from childhood and recent trauma.

I trained with Bedford College and Carino Counselling.

In addition to my counselling credentials, I have a wealth of experience gained through an international career in diverse cultural contexts and several years' working with the Samaritans and Cruse Bereavement/Grief services as a listening volunteer.

I offer online sessions face-to-face, through video or phone and talking while walking options.

NCPS
National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS)

In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

I aim to make counselling accessible to as many as possible, so am happy to offer discounted rates to students, NHS staff and care workers.

I also offer a free initial 20 minute, no-obligation chat. During this, I will ask a few general questions about your needs, and you can ask me any questions you might have. This can help to see if we are a good fit for each other.
