About me

I am Deborah, a qualified Person-Centered Counsellor and Psychotherapist based near Edinburgh, Midlothian. I work with adults (18+) and I also volunteer one day per week at a Suicide Prevention Charity in Wishaw. I provide short and long-term counselling, either face to face or online via Zoom. I aim to provide a safe, grounded, relaxed, and inclusive space where you will be listened to deeply at your own pace. I will listen with compassion and help you to explore difficult thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and behaviours to better understand yourself, your present or past experiences, and those around you.

I believe we are all unique and are the experts of our own life. Counselling offers a chance to talk about yourself, your life, and your challenges with a counsellor who ‘gets’ you. I offer a tailored integrative approach to fit the needs and circumstances of each individual client where you can explore your situation without fear of judgement. My studies focused on the Pluralistic Model and this enables me to listen to what YOU want from counselling and adapt my approach to suit your goals, needs, and situation best.

I incorporate theoretical knowledge from a number of widely accepted counselling modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Somatic and Relaxation Therapy, Transactional Analysis, and Person-Centred Therapy. Additionally, I incorporate creative techniques such as working with the ‘Inner Child’ to address the parts of ourselves we may struggle with, helping manage overwhelming emotions and thoughts.

I am also currently studying Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy, which is a way to understand your internal system as a collection of ‘parts’ and to help you to transform and heal. I am thorough and dedicated in my approach to ongoing study and regularly undertake CPD (Continued Professional Development).

I understand that finding a therapist can feel nerve-wracking and daunting. I offer a free 15-minute initial consultation by phone call or Zoom for you to discuss what you would be looking for in counselling, ask any questions you may have about the therapy I offer, and for you to consider if you would feel comfortable working with me.
