Individual & Relationship Counselling. Reg MBACP

About me

Welcome to The Changing Room

So why chose me? I am a qualified BACP Registered counsellor, providing in-person and online therapy to individuals and couples.

My ethos as a therapist is client-lead so in our sessions you can expect:

  • To start with what has bought you to therapy, whether personal, family, or work-related.
  • To collaborate on what outcomes you want to achieve together.
  • For me to guide you through discussing the context of the issues you want to work through, as well as your wider experiences.
  • To help you through a process of self-reflection to make links and see unhelpful patterns in your life.
  • For me to encourage and challenge in equal measure - my role is to support you through what might be a difficult process to achieve lasting change.

When working with clients, I often describe the issues each of us is carrying through life as items in our own personal suitcase. My priority is creating a space which is welcoming and collaborative - allowing you to feel safe to explore and unpack what you are struggling with.

My role is to be someone you can rely on to hold the load with you as we unpack together - so you feel more able to process what you have been carrying.

I specialise in Integrative Counselling, which means I believe there are a number of different approaches including CBT. I understand that no one person or couple are the same, that different problems require different solutions, and that no single theory is sufficient - and I adapt my approach accordingly.

I may be a good fit for you if…

  • you feel stuck or overwhelmed
  • you have a problem you can’t figure out
  • you think you aren’t good enough
  • you are not where you want to be
  • you want to move forward instead of going in circles
  • you feel that you can’t make changes alone

So, what do my clients say about their experience?

Anxiety

'My G.P recommended CBT for my anxiety. I was having regular panic attacks and my anxiety was affecting pretty much every area of my life. Debbie helped me work through my negative thought patterns and helped me see that it was my way of thinking that was the issue, and that the years of always thinking the worst could be over, that I had the power to change my life. I no longer suffer from panic and feel that I now have a real handle on my way of thinking. No more, I'm not good enough.'

Depression

'At first I was nervous about the thought of coming for counselling but soon was put at ease. Having someone to talk to and be open without any judgement was lovely. I thought it was good that I could talk about anything. And I liked the fact that I wasn't told what to do but was given the help and encouragement to realise the direction that was right for me.'

Family Issues/Relationships

'We felt having a space to talk in that was safe and supportive was really helpful. The sessions were very well managed and structured and there was an understanding and empathy with our situation which felt comforting.  We were each allowed a decent time to talk and reflect.

Thank you Debbie – you were very kind and understanding and we really appreciated the lack of judgement and desire to help us with your reflections and ideas'

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
