About me
Hello, my name is Deborah, and I have 25 years of experience as a Counsellor and I have been a Supervisor for 6 years. I work with adults 18+ and I am a full member of the BACP.
Sometimes, we realise we need some support to cope with how we feel, but we may think it is too small to mention, or that it would be too much to share. You might be working through relationship, work or family challenges? Perhaps, you are feeling low, but not quite sure why? Just having someone to listen and support you in a non-judgemental way can help with perspective and recognising patterns or coping mechanisms. Today is a positive first step towards understanding yourself and I can provide a warm, non-judgemental space to explore what is on your mind, working collaboratively at your own pace.
My core training was Psychodynamic at the University of Reading. However, my counselling style is Integrative, drawing additionally from solution focused approaches. This lends itself to both open ended psychotherapy, exploring a person’s life from childhood and recognising patterns and behaviours, as well as being extremely effective in shorter, more goal orientated work.
Training, qualifications & experience
- Counselling Skills Certificate in the Gerard Egan Model
- Introduction to Transactional Analysis - Metanoia Institute
- Undergraduate Credit Accumulation Programme - Sociology. University of Reading
- Post Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling - University of Reading
- Post Qualification Certificate in Supervision (Psychodynamic/Integrative) - WPF Therapy
Most of my experience comes from my role as a counsellor and supervisor within an international company, working with adults experiencing a broad range of difficulties in their wellbeing. Additionally, I am a supervisor and teacher at NESCOT College in Surrey, supervising Foundation Degree trainee counsellors.
I have previously held other rewarding positions counselling at mental health charities, within a university wellbeing service and at Women’s Aid.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
