About me

Where do you begin to choose a counsellor or therapist? You must be overwhelmed by all the different registrations and qualifications. Please be assured in that I am UKCP registered as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist. I am a Doctor of Psychotherapy and I hold a Master's degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling. In addition, I have over 30,000 hours of clinical experience over thirty years. I was founder and Director of a Counselling and Psychotherapy centre for twenty years working mainly with adults. Prior to this I worked with adolescents in schools.

At our first meeting, currently by phone or Skype, you will gain a professional assessment in order for us to establish your treatment needs. I offer long term psychoanalytic psychotherapy and short-term counselling and psychotherapy.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy places your presenting difficulties in the context of your past history, so we will take a long look at your childhood experiences and relationships. If you can recall your dreams and want to explore their meaning we can use them in the sessions to allow us to learn what is at core of your concerns.

A quicker approach is through a process known as EMDR [Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing]. This technique is particularly useful in cases of anxiety, panic attacks, trauma, phobias and complex grief. It allows us to switch off the anxiety, then we can explore things on a greater depth, if you still want to.

For a quick reply please text or email and I'll reply the same day. Choose wisely; this is your investment in you and it isn't always about the first person who gets back to you. While the lockdown for Coronavirus is in force, we can conduct our sessions by phone or Skype. Once this is all over, I hope we can meet in person.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
