About me
Where do you begin to choose a counsellor or psychotherapist? You must be overwhelmed by all the different registrations and qualifications. Please be assured in that I am UKCP registered as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist. I am a Doctor of Psychotherapy and I hold a master's degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling. In addition, I have over 30,000 hours of clinical experience over thirty years. I was founder and Director of a Counselling and Psychotherapy centre for twenty years working mainly with individual adults.
At our first meeting, currently by phone or Zoom, you will gain a professional assessment in order for us to establish your treatment needs. I offer long term psychoanalytic psychotherapy and short-term counselling and EMDR.
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy places your presenting difficulties in the context of your past history, so we will take a long look at your childhood experiences and relationships. If you can recall your dreams and want to explore their meaning, we can use them in the sessions to allow us to learn what is at core of your concerns.
A quicker approach is through a process known as EMDR [Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing]. This technique is particularly useful in cases of anxiety, panic attacks, trauma, phobias and complex grief. It allows us to switch off the anxiety, then we can explore things on a greater depth, if you still want to.

Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
