About me

Counselling and psychotherapy is an opportunity to address the parts of you that remain unformulated, unexpressed, or unknown.

We all carry with us a weight of experience that is repressed, denied, distorted or simply misunderstood. We construct narratives that help us to ignore or avoid the parts of our lives that might be unwelcome or unwanted. We struggle with anger, guilt, self-loathing and resentment at a huge personal cost.

Other times we recall traumatising experiences without emotional connection, belittling the impact it has had upon us and convincing ourselves and others that we are just fine, thank you very much.

This denial is often the root of our depression, anxiety, stress or discontent. Blame, whether directed inward or outward, keeps us stuck in patterns that do not serve us. Our negative voice berates us for not changing; returning us to smallness and sadness.

Alongside this inner critic and buried experience is a real self, asking to be heard; a sensitive, wise and compassionate self that is no longer willing to hold onto resentment and fear, or deny our true hope and spirit; a self that is not content merely coping and getting by.

A self that knows it is time to heal, change and thrive.

Through talking, in the presence of real listening, we are able to gently explore the truths that have eluded us and witness a transformation in how we understand ourselves and our stories. We begin to notice what we really feel and deserve. We begin to get better at giving and receiving love.

We are left feeling lighter. We realise the unsayable or unknowable things we have held onto are a common part of everyday human experience. The unfurling of what we truly feel and experience sets in motion the life changing process of becoming; of returning to the person we were all along, as if reuniting with an old, loved and forgotten friend.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have two bachelor degrees in law and linguistics, a postgrad in education and full certification as a BACP counsellor and psychotherapist.

The foundation of my practice is a desire to help people learn, grow and find peaceful contentment in themselves. I understand how overwhelming and difficult life is. I also appreciate the transformative power of connecting with our authentic self, so we can be guided by an inner voice of compassion and care.

I worked in mentorship, pastoral and educational roles for 20 years, at University and Secondary level, before undergoing extensive BACP training as a counsellor and psychotherapist.

I approach your therapeutic journey with a strong sense of responsibility and hold your stories with care and respect.

Clients report that I bring a calming, empathetic and attentive presence to their therapy, along with a genuine sense of care for their wellbeing.

My practice is grounded in the Person Centred Approach but may incorporate eclectic elements of several other therapeutic models depending on the needs of the individual or couple.

Psychodynamic therapy,  Existentialism, Transpersonal therapy, Transcendentalism, Jungian analysis, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and Inner Child work are among some of the other approaches I draw upon.

I believe in the importance of the full therapeutic hour for our sessions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I believe therapy should be an affordable and accessible service for all. I provide online therapy via Zoom to keep costs down, and offer concessionary rates on a case by case basis.

Therapy is an incredibly personal journey and as such a strong rapport between therapist and client is essential.

Finding the right therapist can be extremely costly and time consuming, so I offer all new clients a reduced rate of £35 for an initial 60 minute consultation. This hour gives you the opportunity to address any questions and concerns you might have, begin therapy in a formal sense and, most importantly, decide if the fit feels right for you.

Alternatively, I offer a free 10 minute introductory Zoom call, should you prefer this.

Please contact me via email here to arrange an initial consultation.
