Adults and Couples Therapist, BSc, MA, MBACP

About me

Hello.  I'm David.  I'm a therapist working with individuals and with couples.  My areas of expertise include anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties.

Individual therapy:   I am able to offer a safe and supportive space (either in person or online) to discuss problems you may be experiencing in your relationship with others or, indeed, your relationship with yourself.

If you are struggling with stress, anxiety or depression, you may well benefit from the opportunity to discuss your difficulties and uncover their root causes.  You may find that talking therapy improves your level of self-awareness and frees you from unhelpful patterns of behaviour.

Couples therapy:   Relationships are not easy.  Couples therapy offers the chance to discuss your problems and challenges as a couple in a safe, confidential space.

Firstly, I will ask what brings you to therapy and what you hope to gain from it. Then we can begin to investigate the causes of your conflicts, why you tend to see things differently, and how to communicate more productively.

I work with many different kinds of couples and will always endeavour to respect your differences and understand your particular circumstances.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained in Couple and Individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at the world-renowned Tavistock Relationships.  I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their ethical framework.

I bring to my work as a therapist many years of varied experience working in the Arts sector and in the business world.

I have a lifelong interest in how we relate to each other, why it can be so challenging and how relationships can be improved, even transformed.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
