About me
Are you exhausted by worry that never seems to switch off? Do you wake at 3am with your mind racing, dreading the day ahead? Maybe you're carrying a grief that feels invisible to the people around you - something you've never quite been able to put into words, let alone share.
You don't have to keep managing alone.
I'm David Lewis, a qualified counsellor based in Anfield, Liverpool, holding a first-class BSc (Hons) in Counselling. I offer one-to-one counselling for adults, young people, and children experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, low self-worth, and loss - including the kind of loss that often goes completely unacknowledged.
My approach is person-centred and humanistic - which means sessions are led entirely by you, at your pace, without judgement or agenda. I draw on trauma-informed practice and a range of creative therapeutic tools including emotion cards, emotion wheels, self-reflection activities, and creative expression - always guided by what feels right for you in that moment.
I am a calm, softly spoken person, and clients often tell me they feel more settled just being in the space we share. There's no pressure to have the right words. If you don't know what you're feeling, that's okay - we can sit with that together. What matters most to me is creating a space where the parts of yourself you've kept hidden can slowly come to the surface, and where you begin to realise those parts are not as shameful as you may have feared.
I have experience working across NHS primary care, university mental health services, and primary school settings, which gives me a broad, grounded perspective on how differently people experience and carry their struggles.
I hold specialist qualifications in pregnancy and infant loss, rainbow babies, and infertility. I also bring a personal understanding of grief - in particular, the grief that men often carry in silence after pregnancy loss, a pain that is rarely spoken about and even more rarely understood. If any of that resonates with you, please know you are not alone, and that this is a space where your experience will be fully acknowledged.
I am a BACP member with accreditation currently in progress.
Sessions are available in person at my Liverpool practice in Anfield, or online across the UK via secure video call. I currently have availability for new clients.
Taking the first step is often the hardest part. I offer a free 20-minute consultation call - no commitment, no pressure - so you can get a feel for how I work before deciding anything. You can book directly through my website. I'd be glad to hear from you.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
I work from my practice in Anfield, Liverpool (L4), which is accessible by public transport and has parking available nearby. The space is private, quiet, and designed to feel as comfortable and safe as possible.
Online sessions are available UK-wide via secure video call, and work in exactly the same way as in-person sessions. Many clients find online working suits their lifestyle, and the therapeutic relationship is just as strong.
I work with adults, young people, and children (all ages under 18 welcome). Sessions for younger clients draw on creative and play-based approaches tailored to their age and developmental stage.
I typically offer weekly or fortnightly sessions depending on what works best for you. There is no fixed number of sessions — some people benefit from short-term focused work, others prefer longer-term support. We'll work out what's right for you together.
I uphold BACP ethical standards, maintain full GDPR compliance, and hold current safeguarding qualifications. I am BACP-registered with accreditation currently in progress.
