About me
Bereavement Counselling in Cardiff
Hello, I'm Fred. I’m a qualified counsellor and a Registered Member of MBACP, offering counselling to adults experiencing bereavement, loss and the many challenges that can accompany them.
I trained as a counsellor at Cardiff and Vale College and studied Psychology at Cardiff University. I have experience supporting bereaved, pre-bereaved and palliative patients, and have seen how profoundly loss can affect us - emotionally, practically and in our sense of who we are and what life might look like in the future.
My approach is humanistic-existential. For me, this means meeting you as an individual, without judgement or assumptions about how you should grieve or what you should be feeling, and working together to help you find meaning as you move forward into the future. I aim to provide a warm, honest and pragmatic space where you can talk openly about what is happening for you, at your own pace.
Grief, loss and depression
Grief and loss can be closely connected with depression and difficulties with emotional wellbeing. Sometimes the connection to loss is clear, while at other times it can be less obvious. Loss isn't limited to bereavement; it can also involve relationships, health, identity, work or the future we had imagined for ourselves.
You may be experiencing sadness, anger, guilt, anxiety, or loneliness. You may feel numb or disconnected, or simply find that life no longer feels quite the same. Perhaps you are struggling with a loss that happened recently, or one that occurred many years ago but still feels unresolved.
There is no right way to grieve and no fixed timetable. My role isn't to tell you how you should feel or to try to "fix" your grief. Instead, I can offer you the time and space to explore your experience, make sense of what has happened, and consider how you might move forward while continuing to acknowledge and honour what you have lost.
Pre-bereavement and end-of-life support
Loss can begin before someone dies. Anticipating the death of someone you care about can bring its own mixture of sadness, fear, uncertainty and sometimes guilt. My experience of working with pre-bereaved and palliative patients means I understand that support can be valuable both before and after a death.
Whether you are coming to terms with a recent bereavement, facing an anticipated loss, or struggling with something that happened some time ago, counselling can provide a place where you don't have to navigate it alone.
Counselling in Cardiff and online
I offer in-person counselling from my practice on Cathedral Road, near the centre of Cardiff, as well as online counselling and home visits.
If you feel that talking with someone might be helpful, please get in touch. We can have an initial conversation about what you're experiencing and whether counselling with me feels like the right fit for you.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
