About me
Lotus Counselling
My name is Danielle, and I am an autistic counsellor dedicated to supporting individuals through life's challenges. While I am committed to assisting all clients, I have a particular interest in supporting the neurodiverse community, as I understand the unique experiences they face.
I recognise that reaching out for support can be a significant step, which is why I offer a complimentary 15-minute telephone or video consultation to help determine whether we are a suitable match for working together.
I am a person-centered counsellor practicing within an integrative approach, drawing on my training and ongoing professional development since qualifying in 2021. I provide clients with a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment to express, reflect, and explore their thoughts and feelings. Clients have described me as approachable and calming. I believe that you are the expert of your experience(s), and my role is to support you to access your inner resources, fostering an environment where you do not feel the need to conceal or suppress your authentic thoughts and emotions.
The name of my practice, Lotus Counselling, reflects my Buddhist beliefs and the symbolism associated with the lotus flower. In Buddhism, the Buddha’s enlightenment was described as seeing humans as akin to lotus flowers—plants that rise from muddy waters to bloom beautifully, given the right conditions. For me, this imagery mirrors the human process of growth and self-discovery, emphasising that we develop and flourish by overcoming challenges, provided we have the appropriate support and environment.
Training, qualifications & experience
I qualified in 2021 with a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have over eight years of experience working within the mental health charity sector and I am capable of providing both short-term and long-term therapeutic support.
I am dedicated to supporting a diverse range of individuals and continuously pursue professional development. I have completed training in the following areas and I feel confident to work with these and any related concerns:
- Trauma-Informed Practice
- Counselling for Depression
- Online and Telephone Practice (adhering to best practices for ethical remote work)
- Race and Culture
- LGBTQ+ Issues
- Neurodiversity
- Menopause
- Bereavement and Loss (including child loss and bereavement by suicide)
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
