About me

My name is Dr Dan Southall. I provide compassionate, evidence-based psychological therapy for adults facing a range of psychological and emotional issues.

I can offer therapy face-to-face from comfortable rooms on the outskirts of Beverley, East Yorkshire, or you can access sessions online if you wish.

I have over 10 years of experience working in the NHS with adults with mental health difficulties, for part of this time leading a psychology team for adults with complex emotional needs.

In addition to psychological therapy, I have expertise in providing bespoke training on a range of topics related to psychology and mental health. I can also offer clinical and professional supervision for psychologists, mental health professionals, and therapists.

If you are struggling with your thoughts and feelings, have times where you feel overwhelmed, or things just don't feel right or normal, you might benefit from some time exploring things. I can help you make sense of your experiences and we can build an understanding together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a professional doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Staffordshire University (2017). In addition, I have a Master's in Clinical Psychology and Mental Health Research from the University of Sussex (2011) and a first class bachelors in Psychology from Lancaster University (2010).

I have extensive training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, having completed a professional certificate in Acceptance and Mindfulness-Based Approaches with Sheffield Hallam University. I have completed further ACT training with Psychwire and Contextual Consulting, including a comprehensive programme for Trauma Focused ACT. I have completed introductory training for EMDR and have used this extensively in my clinical practice. I have also completed workshops in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).

I have worked as a clinical psychologist in NHS services since 2017, and during that time, I have worked primarily with adults with severe and enduring mental health difficulties. I developed the homeless psychology service in Hull and, more recently, led the psychology team within the Complex Emotional Needs service in Scunthorpe.
