About me
Hi, I'm Dan,
Reaching out for counselling takes courage, and if you're reading this, you've already taken the first step. I'm here to offer a space where you can talk openly, be heard without judgement, and make sense of what's going on for you, at your own pace.
I'm a qualified counsellor with a Level 6 BA (Hons) in Counselling. My approach is rooted in person-centred therapy. I won't tell you how to live your life or hand you a script to follow. I believe you are the expert on your own experience, and my role is to walk alongside you, listen properly and help you find your own way forward. That said, I'm not a silent nodder. I'll be honest with you, I'll gently challenge where it's useful, and I'll be real in the room.
Where it fits what you need, I also integrate techniques from Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Gestalt therapy. That might mean exploring the patterns you fall into with other people, looking at how your thoughts shape your feelings and behaviour, or focusing on what you're noticing in the present moment. We'll always shape the work around you, not the other way round.
Who I work with:
I work with adults and young people under 18, and I have a specialist focus on boys, men and masculinity. Many men grow up learning to push feelings down, keep busy, or just "get on with it." Over time, that can leave you feeling stuck, short-tempered, numb or unsure how to put what's happening into words. You don't need the right language before you come to see me. Finding it together is part of the work.
How I work:
I offer sessions in person in Westcliff-on-Sea, online by video, by telephone, and as walk and talk therapy.
Walk and talk is exactly what it sounds like. Instead of sitting face to face in a room, we meet outdoors and talk while we walk side by side. For many people, especially those who find a traditional therapy room intense or formal, this feels more natural and less pressured. Moving alongside someone, rather than facing them, can make it easier to open up, and the steady rhythm of walking often helps thoughts and feelings settle into place.
Research also suggests that combining talking therapy with time outdoors and gentle movement can bring extra benefits. These include lower stress and anxiety, improved mood, and a greater sense of calm and connection, both with yourself and with the world around you. We'll agree together beforehand on a route, how we'll handle confidentiality in a public space, and what to do if the weather turns.
What happens next?
We start with a free initial consultation. It's a chance to get to know each other, talk about what's brought you here, and see whether working together feels right. There's no pressure and no commitment beyond that.
New client offer:
If you decide to go ahead after your free consultation and book three sessions in advance, your fourth session is included at no extra cost.
If you're ready, get in touch. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
I am a qualified, registered member of the BACP, and I work within its Ethical Framework.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
