About me
Discovering Your Neurodivergent Self: Autism, ADHD, or Both?
Are you navigating the complex world of neurodiversity? Perhaps you're wondering if you're autistic, have ADHD, or both (AuDHD)? You're not alone. Many adults are receiving late diagnoses, often prompted by their child's diagnosis or through self-discovery. Thanks to the wealth of information now available, more people than ever are embarking on their own neurodiversity research journeys.
The Double-Edged Sword of Diagnosis
Discovering you're neurodivergent can be a mixed blessing. While it often brings a sense of relief and self-understanding, it also raises new questions. How much do you really know about autism or ADHD? Surprisingly, many neurodivergent individuals have limited knowledge about their own neurotype.
Navigating a Neurotypical World
Do you sometimes feel like an alien trying to decipher human behaviour? What seems straightforward to neurotypical individuals can be perplexing for neurodivergent people. This disconnect can lead to:
Feelings of shame and confusion
A fragmented sense of self
Social withdrawal and isolation
Embracing Your Unique Neurodivergent Profile
Remember, no two neurodivergent individuals are alike. Many also experience co-occurring conditions such as trauma, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, or depression. Your neurodivergence can influence every aspect of your life, from family dynamics to workplace relationships and friendships.
Bridging the Gap Between Inner and Outer Worlds
Do you feel fundamentally different from others?
Is there a disconnect between your inner experience and outward appearance?
Do you struggle to express your emotions?
Whether you're exploring the possibility of being neurodivergent or coming to terms with a diagnosis, it's important to recognise how past experiences shape your present. This awareness can help you break free from unhealthy behavioural and thought patterns. Ready to embark on your neurodivergent journey of self-discovery and growth? Let's explore together.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified psychotherapist with specialist training in Transactional Analysis (TA), having completed comprehensive Level 7 training. This is a rigorous programme that exceeds the minimum requirements for practice and reflects my commitment to offering clients a high standard of professional care. I also engage in regular continuing professional development (CPD) to ensure my knowledge and skills remain current and effective.
I hold a certificate in couples counselling and in working with trauma, and have undertaken extensive training in supporting neurodivergent individuals and couples. Over the past five years, I have developed a particular specialism in working with autistic and ADHD adults.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
