About me
Are you struggling with anxiety, low mood, or finding yourself stuck in patterns you don’t fully understand? You may notice that you react in ways that don’t make sense, or feel caught between different parts of yourself.
Our together will work focus on helping you understand those internal patterns and responses, so that change becomes possible and long-term — not just insight, but a shift in how you experience yourself and others.
How we can work together
Support is available through both conventional therapy and structured psycho-educational programmes, depending on what feels right for you.
I have included a Q&A section below with some additional information.
Do you offer short-term therapy for anxiety or low mood?
Yes. Short-term, solution-focused therapy is available for generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), low mood, and low self-esteem and many other situations. This is usually up to ten sessions and focuses on practical change in the here and now.
Do you offer a free initial consultation?
Yes. A free 20-minute initial meeting is available to discuss your needs and how we might work together.
What is short-term therapy used for?
Short-term therapy can help with a variety of things including anxiety, including GAD, low mood, and low self-esteem. The focus is on current difficulties rather than past experiences, helping you understand what’s happening now and how to respond differently.
How does short-term therapy help with anxiety (GAD)?
The work focuses on reducing anxiety and stress by identifying patterns such as automatic negative thoughts and unhelpful reactions. You’ll develop practical ways to manage symptoms and feel more in control.
What kind of strategies are used?
This may include:
Understanding and challenging automatic negative thoughts
Managing the inner critical voice
Setting clearer boundaries and recognising responsibility
Practical tools to reduce stress and anxiety in daily life
Therapy offers a space to explore your experiences in depth, particularly where patterns feel longstanding or difficult to shift alone. They will take place weekly via Teams.
Please contact e for more information or to arrange a free 20 minute initial meeting.
I have also included more in-depth information below.
For those who want a clearer, more structured approach, psycho-educational courses provide insight and practical tools without the need for ongoing therapy.
Cost-Effective Hybrid Approach
For those looking for a more structured and cost-effective option, a hybrid approach is available.
This combines live therapy sessions with guided self-reflection, allowing you to engage in the work at your own pace while still receiving professional support.
The process alternates between sessions and focused self-guided work. After an initial session, you’ll complete a structured questionnaire and worksheets. This informs the next session, where patterns are clarified and explored further.
From there, you’ll be introduced to key concepts such as the Defender (how you keep yourself safe from perceived threats), with supporting materials to work through independently before the following session. This creates a steady rhythm of insight, reflection, and integration.
This approach is particularly helpful if you:
Prefer time to reflect between sessions
Want a clearer, more structured process
Are looking for a more affordable way to engage in therapeutic work
It offers both depth and flexibility, supporting meaningful change without the need for ongoing weekly sessions.
Approach
This work is grounded in psychodynamic thinking, with a focus on understanding your inner world in a way that is both accessible and practical.
It includes:
Self-States – different parts of you that shape how you think, feel, and respond
The Defender – how you protect yourself depending on your emotional state
The Villain Narrative – the internal voice of doubt or criticism
Alongside this understanding, structured tools such as RAIN and SCAN are used to help embed change and develop new ways of responding.
Experience
With over 20 years’ experience in mental health settings, including psychiatric hospitals, this work is grounded in both clinical practice and real-world application.
Programmes
A series of psycho-educational programmes has been developed to make these ideas clear and usable:
I Think Therefore I Eat – Reactive Emotional Eating
I Think Therefore I React – Situational Anxiety
Further programmes will follow, including work focused on menopause and emotional clarity. The above two programmes are also available as a fully self-guided audio download on payhip.com/thecausationseries
Common Questions
Why do I keep reacting in ways I don’t understand?
This is often linked to underlying emotional patterns and protective responses. Different “Self-States” can shape how you think and react in the moment, even when it doesn’t feel logical. Understanding these patterns is the first step toward change.
Can therapy help if I already understand my problems?
Yes. Insight alone doesn’t always lead to change. Therapy focuses on how patterns are experienced in the present, helping you respond differently rather than repeating the same cycles.
Do I need long-term therapy?
Not necessarily. Some people benefit from shorter, structured psycho-educational programmes that provide clarity and practical tools without ongoing therapy.
What if I don’t want to talk about everything in depth?
That’s completely valid. Psycho-educational work offers a more structured way of understanding yourself, without the need for open-ended or long-term exploration.
How is this different from other types of therapy?
This approach combines psychodynamic understanding with clear, structured frameworks. It focuses not only on why you feel the way you do, but how to work with those patterns in a practical way.
Can this help with anxiety or feeling overwhelmed?
Yes. Anxiety is often linked to how we interpret and respond to internal experiences. Understanding these responses can reduce overwhelm and create a greater sense of control.
What are Self-States?
Self-States are different parts of your internal world that influence how you think, feel, and behave. Learning to recognise them can help you understand sudden shifts in mood, reactions, or perspective.
What are the Defender and the Villain?
The Defender refers to how you protect yourself emotionally, often automatically. The Villain Narrative is the internal critical voice that can reinforce doubt or self-judgement. Both can be understood and worked with.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
Traditional counselling and psychotherapy can sometimes feel financially out of reach. If therapy is not currently viable but you would still like access to psychologically informed tools, I created The Causation Series of Psycho-Educational programmes for that very reason.
They offer self-guided support programmes designed to help you understand emotional patterns and develop practical insight.
These structured programmes use therapeutic frameworks, guided audio sessions, reflective materials, and meditations, allowing you to explore psychological concepts in a thoughtful and supportive way at your own pace.
You can access these programmes here:

They are designed for people who:
• want greater understanding of emotional patterns
• are looking for psychologically informed guidance outside therapy
• prefer a self-paced learning approach
• want support tools between therapy sessions
