About me

I like to offer a safe, calm and supportive space to people who are facing difficulty in their lives. Do you have a sense of feeling confused, stuck or disappointed in relationships? Perhaps you want to talk about a disturbing loss or new circumstances. You might be facing change as you take on an unfamiliar role or pursue a new goal. Some people come to see me suffering from a lack of meaning or enjoyment in their lives.

We can discuss what you’re going through, begin to make sense of things, and find a way forward in your life. Some emotional difficulties and challenging situations are too much for one person to cope with by themselves. However, the two of us working together can help you manage how you feel, think creatively and consider the different choices you could make. Our time together is confidential, and you can take things at your own pace.

I can help with a variety of personal issues and relationship difficulties. I’m also happy to work with people who don’t yet know what the matter is – or who feel like everything has gone wrong. My particular interest is in people who are facing a change in their identity – perhaps a loss, a transition or a new role in work or personal life.

I have a particular interest in workplace issues and offer executive coaching to individuals and groups. I am a director and co-founder of Respia – www.respia.io - a management consultancy providing one-to-one executive coaching and facilitated peer-groups for business founders and decision makers.

I'm based in SW2, and my practice location is convenient for Brixton, Clapham, Herne Hill, Dulwich, Battersea, Balham, Norwood, Tooting and Streatham.

Training, qualifications & experience

I’ve been working as a psychotherapist since 1999. After a number of years employed in private sector and NHS therapy services, I’m now in full-time private practice.

I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist following a psychoanalytic training at The Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis. I am also BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor following four years of training in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy at Metanoia Institute.

I’ve held various roles offering assistance to people suffering from difficulty or distress in their lives. I have experience as a practitioner, manager and supervisor across NHS, not-for-profit and private sector provision of therapy services. My previous roles have included managing the counselling service that provided talking therapies across GP surgeries in a London Primary Care Trust. Before my practice as a psychotherapist, I worked in the legal profession dealing with domestic violence, family and welfare issues.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have a particular interest in workplace problems and organisational issues, such as workplace stress, bullying, redundancy and career change. I offer executive coaching and employee support, helping people to address the many pressures they face in the modern workplace. I have experience as both a manager and a trainer. I originally trained to be a solicitor and my workplace issues expertise is informed by my legal experience in the commercial sector, which has included roles in a city law firm and a large plc.

I offer clinical supervision to a wide range of qualified therapists as well as trainee practitioners. I have experience of supervising NHS, EAP, insurance and private practice work. My supervision qualification is The Minster Centre Diploma in Supervision.

As well as supervising psychoanalytic practitioners, I also enjoy working with therapists from other orientations who would like to integrate more psychoanalytic thinking into their practice. I work with trainees who are preparing for qualification or who are working on placement. Another area of interest for me is supporting practitioners who wish to go into private practice or transition into management roles.
