Supervision details
I offer clinical supervision to a wide range of qualified therapists as well as trainee practitioners. As well as supervising psychoanalytic practitioners, I also work with therapists from other orientations who would like to integrate more psychoanalytic thinking into their practice. I have experience of supervising NHS, EAP, insurance and private practice work. I work with trainees who are on placement or preparing for qualification. I also offer support to practitioners who wish to go into private practice or transition into management roles.
I like to offer a space for the exploration of the therapist’s emotional responses to their clients, their practice and the role of psychotherapist more generally. I also support colleagues with ethical issues, risk management, conflict within organisations and managing practice in times of personal difficulty. I have a particular interest in the ethical issues therapists face, and I am Chair of The Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis Ethics Committee.
I've been working as a psychotherapist since 2000. I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist following a psychoanalytic training at The Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis, and a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor. My own clinical practice is psychoanalytic, and I draw on an earlier training in transactional analysis. My supervision qualification is the Minster Centre Postgraduate Diploma in Supervision. I work in accordance with the UKCP Practice Guidelines for Supervisors, and I am on the UKCP Supervisor Directory.
I have worked as a practitioner, manager and supervisor across NHS, not-for-profit and private sector services, so I am familiar with the demands of practice inside an organisation as well as in independent practice. I also have a particular interest in workplace problems and organisational issues, which some supervisees find useful when the difficulty they bring belongs as much to the setting as to the work.
My usual practice is to see supervisees twice-a-month, although I work with some supervisees once-a-month if they have a second supervisor. I offer supervision in person and online. I currently have some supervision space weekday afternoons. I’m happy to have an initial conversation on the phone about what you’re looking for from supervision. My fee is £90 per 50-minute session.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
