About me

I’m an experienced counsellor who specialises in working with teenagers and young people.

My focus is on finding ways to enable you to become more fully who you want to be. To navigate your way through whatever emotional or psychological difficulties you’re facing. A main aim will be to identify specific changes for you, which you can start to put into practice.

Perhaps most crucial in this process can be creating enough openness and trust between us, so that you really see I want to be on your side and will never judge you for anything you say.

Working in diverse schools and colleges has enhanced my ability to find ways to enable students to change the course of their lives, when they have become stuck, and unlock their true potential. Experiencing how we can change the ways we respond to our own thoughts and feelings can create doors in the face of situations, which appear to confront us with immovable walls.

It can be difficult to find somewhere we can develop our own authentic voice, which we can trust above the negative judgements that too often talk us out of living the life we would choose. The experience of being compassionately seen and understood, in a therapeutic context, can provide a chance to explore ways through whatever’s been really holding you back.

Recent research has confirmed what we often feel, that our brains tend to prioritise fears, in attempts to keep us safe, above our own happiness, unless we learn new ways to respond.

I really value how often I’ve seen how significant changes can be made, when we feel safe and open enough to reveal what’s really going on underneath the facade we might often present to the world.

Training, qualifications & experience

Diploma in Counselling; PGCE; MA: MBACP (registered)

Alongside my psychotherapeutic qualifications, which include therapies for post-traumatic stress, I have teacher training qualifications and an MA, which enable me to also provide more creative and Drama-based therapy, when appropriate.

My approach will be to choose the approach that is most likely to help you, whether that’s CBT, Narrative therapy, Transactional Analysis, Internal Family Systems or something creative.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
