About me
Hello, I’m Charlie. Perhaps you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, or anger? Maybe there are things from your past that you need to talk about? It may be difficult to talk about these things with those closest to you, such as family or friends, whereas therapy can be a reflective space removed from your everyday life to help bring about the change you are seeking.
I’m a qualified and experienced therapist available for in-person sessions from my comfortable practice in Hove, or online. Please get in touch with any questions or concerns, and if you’re interested in scheduling a free, initial conversation to see how we might work together. It’s important that you find someone who feels like a good fit for you as your therapist, and who you feel you can trust.
Help with difficult thoughts and feelings:
I have experience working with people who have entered therapy for a host of different reasons, including:
- feeling anxious, low/depressed or angry
- outwardly seeming fine, but struggling on the inside
- family and relationship issues
- a sense of being directionless or stuck
- low self-esteem and confidence
- a pervasive feeling that something’s not right, even if not knowing what or why
- work-related stress or burnout
- past or current trauma or abuse
- bereavement
Whatever you bring, I will listen deeply to you and provide a calm, confidential and non-judgmental space where we can navigate it together. I believe that therapy can bring about enhancements to your relationships, sense of place in the world, and overall feelings of fulfilment in life.
Counselling for men:
I’m experienced in working with men who have never have had any form of counselling or therapy before, and men who have previously had some counselling and wanted to deepen their self-awareness and understanding by working at greater depth. I recognise that it might be hard for some men to ‘open up’ and to seek therapy, and you may not be exactly sure about what you need or what you might talk about. That’s OK, and I will try to work with you at a pace and in a way that feels right. In my experience, some of these anxieties tend to lessen once we establish our relationship and get into the swing of our sessions.
About my approach:
I work in an integrative way, meaning I value you as an individual and draw on different therapeutic perspectives to offer a way of working that’s best suited to you. I particularly draw on ideas from attachment theory and psychodynamic therapy, which emphasise the impact of your early relationships in life on how you think, feel and behave. We might also think about more existential ideas, for instance around creating more meaning to your life, and considering the choices that are available to you.
During therapy we expect to understand more about what’s happening in your life, your patterns of experience, and how this may be influenced by your past. This can help you to better make sense of your experience, and act as a foundation for growth. My aim is for us to develop understandings, meanings and solutions together, to help bring about lasting change.
Practicalities and fee:
I offer short-term and open-ended therapy. Short-term work can be useful to focus on a current, specific difficulty, whereas open-ended work enables us to explore your difficulties more extensively – and can be helpful for longer-term issues. Arranging weekly sessions at the same time each week enables us to get into the rhythm of your therapy. Sessions can be held in-person, online or a hybrid of both.
My standard fee per 50-minute session is £60, which applies from the first time we meet. I may be able to offer a reduced rate if paying the full fee would be a barrier for you, and feel free to enquire about this.
Next steps:
Please do feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or to schedule a free, no obligation initial conversation.
Training, qualifications & experience
I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and practice according to their ethical framework. I have a masters in integrative counselling and psychotherapy and stay abreast of current good-practice through ongoing professional development.
I've been seeing clients for over 7 years, in private practice, in a university setting, and in a specialist trauma counselling service. I also have extensive experience supporting peoples' mental health at work as an employee wellbeing specialist, offering understandings around the challenges of organisational change, conflict and workplace stress.
Before training as a therapist, I volunteered at the charity The Listening Place in central London, offering face-to-face support to people who felt that life was no longer worth living.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
Please do get in touch if you think I might be able to help:
I recognise that starting therapy may seem daunting and I am here to help you through the process. I offer a free, 15-20 minute phone or Zoom conversation before first meeting, to think together about how I may be able to help you. This can be helpful to get an initial idea of our 'fit', and by no means commits you to going any further.
Our first meeting:
You may not be exactly sure what you want or need in therapy, so a first meeting offers a further chance to think together about your difficulties - and consider how we might work together. It’s a chance to start getting to know each other, an opportunity to ask questions, and speak about any concerns. Again, there's no obligation to continue, and sometimes it’s best to arrange a second meeting before deciding whether to continue.
