Psychodynamic Counsellor MBACP | Adults and Children

About me

Hello, I’m Charity, a BACP registered and experienced counsellor/psychotherapist and clinical supervisor offering both time limited and open ended counselling to adults, children (10+) and young people. My practice is in a quiet location in Walton-on-Thames and offers a safe and welcoming space for you to explore your current difficulties.

I work with adults, children and young people experiencing a range of difficulties such as stress, anxiety, low mood, identity, family issues, grief and loss. I have a special interest in perinatal mental health, the parent-infant relationship and supporting parents with the transition to parenthood and beyond. I work with both mums and dads experiencing difficulties such as postnatal depression, postnatal anxiety, birth trauma and the psychological adjustment to becoming a parent.

I also offer sessions to parents who would like support in understanding their relationship with their children and/or children's behaviour. In using a reflective approach to parenting my aim is to help you understand your child and their behaviour and to strengthen your relationship and connection with them.

I have also undertaken additional training in supporting parents following baby loss and have experience in supporting women with preparing for a subsequent pregnancy following a birth trauma or baby loss.

I have worked as a school counsellor for a leading children's mental health charity providing in-school support interventions to help improve the emotional wellbeing of children and young people, families, teachers and school staff. I have experience working in primary and secondary schools offering talking therapy, creative and play therapy to students struggling with a range of difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, grief and loss, exam stress, gender and identity, ASD, ADHD, low self-esteem and relationship struggles with family and friends.

I draw upon a range of models in my work, including psychodynamic, developmental psychology, cognitive behavioural therapy, coaching and attachment theory. I also offer play therapy and creative techniques when working with children and young people. My style is warm, empathic and collaborative with the aim of providing a compassionate and containing space for my clients.

I practice from a neurodiversity-affirming perspective, supporting neurodivergent clients or parents of neurodivergent children who may be navigating difficuties with masking, sensory sensitivities, executive functioning, autistic burnout and who are unable to attend school.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
