MBACP PGDip Counselling & Psychotherapy

About me

I am trained in the person-centred approach and one of the main beliefs of this approach that every individual has the potential and the inner resources they need to heal, change and grow. Counselling can offer you a space to untangle your thoughts and feelings until you can make sense of them, and this can lead you to a place of healing and change. There is a strong belief that the relationship we build together will be key to more positive outcomes.

My role as your counsellor is to support you during this process and I feel passionately about helping people to reach their full potential.

I create a warm, confidential, safe space where we can build a trusting relationship. This will allow us to work through the difficult stuff together, explore whatever is troubling you or what you would like to change and work on adapting healthier coping strategies. I will listen attentively without judgement and accept you as you are, so that you will feel seen, heard and understood. I bring a calm, genuine and down-to-earth presence.

I have a special interest in women's health, and I am passionate about helping women navigate difficulties in this area, including fertility issues, assisted and donor conception, miscarriage, pregnancy and baby loss, birth trauma, perinatal mental illness and menopause.

When I’m not working I like to keep myself grounded by spending time outdoors, hiking, running and skiing. I love the peacefulness of pottering around my garden being in nature. I also love music, dancing and singing.

Training, qualifications & experience

Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychological Well-being, Counselling and Psychotherapy: University of Aberdeen (Persona Development & Training)

Post-Graduate Certificate in Counselling Studies: University of Edinburgh

COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills: Edinburgh College

Regular CPD (Continuing Professional Development) to enhance my learning and practise.

Regular individual supervision and a monthly  peer supervision group to ensure my practise is safe and of a high standard.

I have many years of working in Adult Mental health in the third sector and in the Emergency Services. Alongside my private practice, I work part-time for a leading Scottish Charity in Perinatal Mental Health.

I volunteered for many years at the PF counselling service in Edinburgh, which is a charitable organisation offering affordable counselling. This is something that I believe in and has been enriching and valuable to my work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
