My name is Catherine and I am warm, friendly and easy to talk to. I am a fully qualified and experienced counsellor and psychotherapist and a registered member of the BACP and abide by its ethical framework. Seeking support when we are feeling vulnerable can be a formidable experience and choosing which therapist to trust can be quite a challenge. As your counsellor, I am committed to working with you, quietly and gently, in a safe, confidential place where you can explore difficult feelings, such as those associated with anxiety, depression, trauma and loss.
I work with a wide range of issues such as phobias, painful memories of the past, including those rooted in childhood, fears for the future, or feelings of being 'stuck' or trapped. I can help you identify unhelpful patterns of behaviour, such as anger and addiction and in so doing find ways to break free from the repetitive downward spiral of negative thoughts. Whatever you bring, I will be there to listen.
How counselling can help
I believe there are times for all of us when we may feel lost, helpless, unheard and alone. We may struggle with overwhelming feelings about ourselves, others and challenging events in our lives. But I also believe in our own inner ability to heal ourselves, build on our personal resources and view our lives from a place of greater clarity. In your sessions, I will strive to work alongside you to help develop your inner strength, sense of purpose and regain control of your life. Together we will undertake a gentle exploration of what has brought you to counselling and find ways of moving towards empowering you to make fresh choices for lasting change.
How I work
I am a trained integrative counsellor which means that I am not tied to one theoretical model and can adapt my approach according to your needs. I will support your right to work at your own pace and help you to find the way forward in a way that feels right for you. I have experience in working with a range of issues including:

Where I work
I work privately from my own consulting room in Fremington, just outside Barnstaple with ample parking available.
When I work
I work from Monday to Friday offering flexible appointments from 9pm through to 7pm as the last available appointment.
